View Full Version : Getting older = Getting WORSE?!

Who ever said getting older means your abilities get lesser?
In High School, I was on the C-C team, and our home course was 2.8 miles, most of it on the streets, and the middle 1/3 was in the woods, brook included (sometimes more like a river). The best I could finish was dead last and at a time of 22:16 at best.
10 years after making that mark, I finally had the chance to part take in the Alumni Meet (it's huge), and with a cold, and a bad left knee, came in 18'th (out of 46), and got a time of 20:23, smashing my personal best from A DECADE AGO.
MORAL: Just because you get older, doesn't mean you can't get better.

Believe me. You will turn into an old fart eventually.
Sigh.
Way back in 1981 (!) my sister and I (and two others) set a county record for the 4 x 400 metre relay, breaking the old record by almost a minute (!). Somehow I don't think I will be able to duplicate that feat.

Why would you try to turn into an old fart?

I mean that how will Boingo know that he can't redo the feat, unless he tries.
I am already turning into an old fart! It's my birthday though! *sob*.
Wait, I should be happy, I get free drinks! Blue Lagoon, anyone?
Can't we all travel at the speed of light so time will freeze and we won't age? http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Unfortunately, time will only appear to slow down to a nuetral observer. We would percieve ourselves as aging normally.
I am just hoping that by the time I hit 50, boinics and tissue engineering will ensure that I can replace my aging body parts. Of course you know that only the rich will be able to afford to have their old organs replaced.

Mine's apricot brandy.
Mm, I doubt Boingo could break that record http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/wink.gif
That being said, I went running through the local wooded park today and was sad to discover that I can no longer run as long as I used to be able to. Off to the gym with me tomorrow....

Hey, Dead Trouble, Sence Boingo is a paranoid old fart, can you tell us what he looks like? I want to know so I can eternailly mock his disfigured (one can only hope) and wretched body.

Drink a lot of Diet Coke, or anything with a ton of sweetner called Astertame.
Aspertame, when digested, turns into Formaldyhide in the stomach. This stuff is used to preserve dead people, so it should work wonders on the living. That's why, at 28, I have trouble getting into casinos. http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

How do you know you CAN'T beat your old record? Do you still run, a lot?
I thought that decade old personal best was one I'll never hit again, and here it is 10 years later, and I destroyed it, with a cold and a bad knee to boot!
I consider the 30's the "Do or Die" decade. This is where I notice a lot of people go from fit, to flab. Hope I do well when I get there.

That equation is definitly wrong. For DooM it's Getting Older=Getting MUCH Better. I am sure everyone agrees.

I don't know about that.
My Dad tried the game 7 years ago, and couldn't do E1M1 without a lot of directional assistance. http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

Well you do have a piont there. But DooM has yet to enter the realm of abondanware, which most games by now have found a good home to seattle down in.

True, but I've already seen two abandonware sites closed down for putting illegal games up...I'd love to see that though.
