3D Discovery

Whoah. Do you dudes remember those 3D art things that you stare at and the page turns into a 3D art thing where stuff goes all screwy and looks like objects are in front of other objects, etc........

Well i was staring at the background on the Forums page and suddenly everything went 3D! The brown textured background went to the ummmmmmmmm.......back, while the text and graphics stayed at the front. So go try it and see if you can see what i just saw. I swear i didn't eat any magic mushrooms or sniff any beer caps today. Honest.

That's easy to do. This happens because your eyes locked onto the exact same spot on neighboring patterns in the background and your brain interpreted those 2 patterns as one, so your eyes converge and focus in such a manner.
This can be done simply looking at your window screens at home (if you have them). Look at 1 square, then get closer, and slowly keep getting closer. Eventually, you'll be close enough the eyes lose convergence, and will refocus on a couple completely different squares.

Try this at home: In MS Paint (or other prog), make a simple shape or pattern. Copy the pattern, then paste the copy next to the original. Cross your eyes so both patterns "converge". Hold. After a few seconds, you'll eyes will focus onto it as one, and now you'll see THREE patterns. The two originals on the left and right, and the center one (which doesn't exist) in front of the two.

Did you try the MS Paint example I outlined above?

If you want to try it, make sure the duplicate image is EXACTLY to the left or right side of the original.

I dunno 'bout you guys but I noticed that little brain trick when I was 4 or 5 years old. The same thing happens if you stare at a phone cord or the side of a shopping cart long enough.
