No, I was asking if anyone noticed the 5.0 version very slow and laggy on complicated animation and games.
The "Fire BAD!" game hardly worked, because the squirt gun couldn't keep up with the mouse at all.

I DL'd it, it didn't automatically upgrade, either. It installed, but not work right away. I rebooted the CP, and Flash 5 was working fine.

Right on. I installed Worldcraft 3.3 awhile ago and it refused to display my 2.1 made maps (about 8 of em). The maps would load but after a few seconds everything would lock up. Then after I formatted my drives, reinstalled Windows, and eventually reinstalled Worldcraft 3.3 it decided to not display anything in textured mode. So now I'm using WC 2.1 and thankfully it works fine, with no weirdo problems. Maybe the next version will be better.....doubt it though.

The weird thing is....this one 3.3 map I started, loads fine in 2.1, and now I'm glad 2.1 can handle it because the cool, player controlled turret I made was in there and I had forgotten to prefab it....phew.

REoL it must be a fluke or something... It loaded fine but all the brushes were white, so none of the texture info was loaded / saved. So I grabbed the turret, prefabbed it and dumped the map because it was just a small test map I made to practice terrain mapping. It is weird though.

Talkin' bout updates. I updated my version of Half-Life and all my older save games work!! Thats something I've never seen before! Unbelievable...! Now I can get into the "On A Rail" section and take some screenshots, without messing with the screwy cheats to get there.

That's too true but I keep away from those constant updates.. I only update when it's absolutely needed.

The funny thing with this last update (not the latest because a new one just appeared on planethalflife) is that you can't walk onto and kill the little cockroach bugs, like you could before. With the new update, the refixed this and now the roaches die by footwear.

Well I built crap too....lots of crap and I totally agree that upgrading for the sake of online fragging is sucky. Every week or less a new 2 or 3 meg patch comes out and thats stupid. Once the game is stable they should leave it as is...

Land Of The Goth sounds cool. Sometimes coming up with a good title is harder than making the map itself. I guess it's either that the name doesn't fit the map, the name sounds crap or someone already used it.

Snapping brushes into place makes allignments much easier, doesn't it?
I always used them, especially in 32 or 64 unit wide increments, or course, lesser for small details (even 1 unit wade snaps help in tight spots).

Ya snap sure saves a lot of time in aligning brushes and sure works nice along with the clipping tool....cuts those cylinders into halves very easily.

Say, did you ever ace this outside, natural, terrain thingy, because this ain't exactly easy? I discovered how they make the nice, non-flat rolling ground, but these cliff walls are a pain.. Some brushes look great and others look crap. I need more practise on this terrain stuff.

I tried it, but the terrain concepts don't really work with what I'm making. I know they just put in a simple patch, maybe with many vertices. They raise and lower the individual vertices until they get the rolling effects they want for bumps and hills.
In theory, it's not all too hard. In practice, the wrong vertice moved means you're screwed.

Yeah, it's called the triangle method and you have to make sure that none of the vertices meet at a triangle's side. All vertices meet with other vertices, and like you say, you manipulate the vertices to make your uneven ground. It works swell.

Now onto the hard part...making nice rock walls and I just found an excellent style guide for all this terrain stuff.

I do believe that odd shapes will work fine. Anything that helps break up the boring flat ground and walls will help.

I'm taking a gaming screenshot frenzy, and after replaying the first part of Quake II: The Reckoning, I'm thinking....Whoah! How did they make these rock caverns so phucking nice!!! The map is really twisty and eerie, with pools of water, stalagmites and jagged, sloped rocks. If I could make something half as nice as this, id be a happy mapper.

Also, I know that the way the pro mappers use textures, is very important in making these cool maps more realistic. I need to remake my custom stone textures and make a few xtras to help split up the repetiveness.

If I could stick to editing just one game, things would be a hell of a lot less complicated.

I'm most impressed with how SMMU is progressing. It can do REALLY useful stuff. Ingame loading of wadfiles, playing Doom1 levels under Doom2(!) and stuff like that there. Personally I think hi-res software modes look far better than any of the GL ports I've seen. The textures in Doom are way too low in resolution for that kind of stuff imo. All I see is a washed out blurry mess when I play 3d accelerated Doom.

Zdoom slopes are easy. Just adjust a couple linedef arguments in your editor and voila. I still have Boom. Actually I have a directory called D-ports that has most all ports. Wouldn't want to miss out on a bitchin level.

Dunno if I'm even going to bother. According to Kesler slopes add nothing to the level 'cept a bit better architecture. They also cause quite a bit of slowdown if they are overused. It's all starting to get a little ridiculous if you ask me. I mean you are going to need like a 1GHZ Thunderbird system to run a Doom level with 3d floors and slopes as well as a p133 can run the original Quake. And it STILL won't look as good. Geez.

Anyway, I remember Quake II in beta. I'd be lucky to get 2FPS at 320x240, full screen. When the game came out, I got over double the speed, about 5 to 15FPS (this was a P60, mind you).

In other words, when the final ZDooM 1.23 comes out, it might be optimized enough to run a little faster, or like Quake II, maybe a lot faster.

Of course they add nothing to the playability. What can you do with slopes that you can't use stairs for anyway? It's all asthetic.

I want a duke nukem TC now... basically I think the doom poirts are at the level of the origainl duke engine. All thst is needed is higher rez sprites and better AI and bingo.

But I belive a remake of duke nukem would be worth it because 3D Relms are gay and did not release the duke source code.

Then again, what do curves in Q3:A do to the game's gameplay? Nothing. Same with ZDooM slopes.

I guess some of you never played the Q2 demo (first one). What an ass-crawler it was. The final game ran twice as fast.

Quake, it ran at 9FPS in ceartain parts of DM1 (I think), where it ran 13FPS in the actual game.

It's possbile ZDooM will process the slopes faster, because it's NEW, and surely will be optimized to perform better before the final product is released. Wheter we'll see it or not remains to be seen.
Stphrz may be right, then again, maybe I am. We'll have to wait and see.

I'd like ZETH to be the next choice.

I need to go into Q3:A and see how many polys make 1/2 an arch, so I can decide how many sectors will make a ZDooM arch, plus 1 (Q3:A doesn't have a "keystone" poly).
