I just downloaded prboom.

I am in LOVE with a dog

You can tell the engine to spawn a dog "Helper" that runs off and attacks enimies! IT IS SO FUCKING COOL!

It squeals in pain when you accidently shoot it and you feel SO guilty! When it bounds in ahead of you and is surrounded by barons of hell, you find yourslef rushing in and screaming at your computer

"I'll save you Doggums!"

Yes, I named it Doggums. It's like having your very own dooming pet that you can take for walkies in hell!

Laugh as Doggums rips demons in half!

Scream as Doggums charges towards the cyberdemon!

Whistle "Here boy" as Doggums gets lost yet again in a maze and forces you to backtrack looking for him!

Cry when doggums gets pulverised beneath a crushing sector!

Do all thia and more!

Accully, trying to keep the stupid sons of bitches alive is a game in itself. It's like lemmings.

RIP Doggums #1) Shot to death by me in e1m1 to see wether or not the dog could die.
RIP Doggums #2) Rocket up the arse in e4m1
RIP Doggums #3) Doggums bites baron of hell. Dn runs in to save Doggums. Baron of hell kills DN with that funky green shit. Doggums kills baron of hell. Doggums dies in a hail of Imp fireballs (all of this is witnessed by Dn's rotating "corpse cam")
RIP Doggums #4) Chaingunned to death while I was getting the soulsphere in map06
RIP Doggums #5) Aracnotron blows up Doggums while I was not looking.

I have yet to discover if doggums will Gib.But it's only a matter of time before he decides to go an "fetch" the BFG plasma ball so...

Reol: It accually makes the game more difficult if you re trying to stop the dog from being killed. Try it. You'll like it!

I tired putting in 5, but it gave me an invalid number jobbie.

I think 3 is the max, but I have yet to test it.

I am now bugging hurdler for more friendly AI in doom. I'll keep you posted as to what the Great Leacgy Programmer God sayeth.

No. I am not going to make a Doggums skin. There is already a skin on the emporium based on the dog from Wolfenstein. It is called jaghund.

Of course to wad includes levels and some other crud that really shouldn't be included in a skin wad, so maybe I could cut it down to just the skin.

If I can figure out a way to change the skin in Prboom.

I really want to figutre out a way to hack the Prboom exe so I can change the dog into something cool like perhaps a fellow marine or a baby cacodemon or even a cyberdemon pet!

How cool would that be?

DN, PRBoom is using the sprites from Doom2, edit the Dog sprites, and you will edit the dog in PRBoom. As for the exe, rename prboom.exe to Doom2.exe and you should be able to edit the exe to change the dog sprite action with Dehacked.

Those dogs kick so much ass. And you do get attached to them, when I hear them cry out coz some nasty Cyberdemon is killing them, I run at the cyber with my BFG and kill the damned bastard! I didn't say the doggies are bad, it just takes away the original DooM feel, which again, with some maps, may be a good thing.
You can take out advisaries (http://doomworld.com) with the doggies, but as mentioned, they can get killed too easilly at the moment. http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

point: dogs originate from MBF, which is at least 2 years old now afaik.

Maybe the guy should add a feature that makes the dogs invincible against the players weapons, that way you can't acidently kill the Dog, you know like teamdamage. Turn it off and your dog can't be killed by you http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

Also, how about using boingo's fists-marine to replace the dog, that would be really cool or find some other skins that look like they attack up close(punching, cutting, bitting)

BTW, does anyone know where I can get a copy of Legacy 1.28, I want to try the Cajun Bot with it, right now I only have 1.30, and I've been having to use Zcajun.

To get the dog in PRboom...go into options / setup / enemies and get yourself a dogg!

Look for version 1.28 of Legacy on the Legacy site...it should be available in thier archives. I looked in my download files and the earliest version I have is 1.29....oh well.

Looney now has a copy of cajun bots, as in he and I found them, and I think someone should port the msdos version to win95/98 and have it use the settings of 1.30 http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif that would be cool, and better yet, add the "team" parm and you could have a team of bots help you fight against your friends in multiplayer http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

The thing about the dog is that you use the jagdhund skin as a bot, and it not only bites, but it will shoot guns and other weapons unless you can find a way to keep the dog from using other weapons

Dude, there is a MASSIVE ifference between bot's and the dog. The bots use nodes to navagate around a level, they act intellegently and (I think) dodge gunfire.

The Dog is simply modified enemy code.

Yeah they are quite intelligent it seems, however they do tend to go against huge numbers of big bad enemies which to me seems suicidal, especially since they have no range attacks. http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif However some would argue this is how real dogs behave, protect their master without thought for their own life... or something.

It is pretty much the case. Dogs are known to attack anyone that's a threat to their owners.

My Mother and a Cousin were having a pillow fight for some reason. The German Shephard growled at my Cousin, then it was stopped. http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

Police Dogs even jump in front of enemy fire, too, but they're tained anyhow.
