Somthing that I have become aware of since starting and recently finishing my own project is the lack of feedback.people just don't seem to want to give any comments.good or bad it would not matter as long as someone was at least giving you the feeling that your project had not gone unnoticed.Anyone else feel the same?

Yep. I understand your pain. However, if you track the number of hits your site gets (if that's a way people can get your work), you can truly see that you're doing a lot better than you think.

In my case, I might get an E-mail or two per release, but my maps get over 300 DL's off my site the week of release (usually withing 2 to 3 days). In this case, it's about a 1/150 chance you'll get an E-mail.

Hope that helps out!

I know what you mean. But one question: do you give feedback to everyone you played a level of?

I try to it is not always the case I'm afraid
but I try to do about 50%.If everyone did this then we would have a lot more feedback flying about http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif))

It is a fact that a lot of times , a level gets downloaded and stored someplace , hard drive , floppy , zip , whatever . Gamer remembers he downloaded the thing and plays it a week after the download . Gamer plays the level and likes it . If it's really good , he probably thinks somethin like : " man that was cool . I should e mail the guy and tell him i liked it " . A hour goes by , then a day that turns into a week . The week turns into a month . After all this time buddy can't remember what he ate for lunch the day before , let alone who the dude was who made the cool level . At about this time the map in question is now surrounded by a horde of other levels and other crap . It gets burried and forgotten . Lost in a sea of good and bad .

The mappers out there who create all the cool maps should get the credit and praise they deserve . No one understands how much time and effort goes into making a good map , let alone a great one . Only editors know the truth of it all . So maybe the next time you or i , play a great map , we should go directly to the net and e mail the guy . Give the mapper some feedback . Even if ya see something that looked wrong , maybe the guy could use your constructive critique .

That reminds me . I played a awesome Quake level pack a week ago . I never e mailed the dudes who made the thing . I gotta go find that read me text . I have a e mail address to find................

BTW FACE, Doom arena is even better than I thought it was. I've had a chance to abuse my brother in it http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif The levels play great!

Well put, Doom_Dude! I couldn't agree more. Most people, like me, just check out the level, and would love to send the maker a good detailed letter! But I always have better things to do. After all, I'm a computer freak 0_o

Doom_Dude is completely right. I was often in that situation, too. I guess most people are like us http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

MAN WHAT A BUMMER

Yeah . Look at how much time we all spend typing up crapola in the Forums . Not just at this place here at the New Doom Forums but all the Forums we all grace with our ideas and stuff , across the Net . Yet we don't bother to write a single "Hey dude ! Cool level !" to that one guy who spent hours / days / months , making a level , that took us all of fifteen minutes to play . It is a bummer , that what we think of the mappers hard work , is rarely sent to the dude . How long would it take to write a wee note of gratitude to just one mapper . Probably a lot less time than it took to write this post .

I know. Some nice feedback where it can be appreciated one way or another would be nice. Unfortunately, if your work is sucky to some people, all of them will let you know about it. http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/frown.gif

A thanks is nice.
