I went to my grocery store for overnight shift, and this is the time when the temperature really started to dip. At 3:45 in the morning, I left out of my house and realized that it appears the warm times is gone, and the true winter has arrived. It was -40C, or -40F. Good thing I plugged in my car. Any of you southerners felt that coldness? http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

(p.s. It is much colder than the freezer you have in your basement)

Was that Celcius or Farenheit,REoL?

15°F may be a little chilly, but 15°C is actually fairly warm. 15°C = 59°F. 15°F = -9.5°C.

Here are some figures to help you convert temperatures:

-40°C = -40°F (exposed flesh freezes within 5 minutes)
-17.8°C = 0°F (melting/freezing point of salt water)
0°C = 32°F (melting/ freezing point of fresh water)
37°C = 98.6°F (normal body temporature)
100°C = 212°F (boiling point of fresh water)

I hope that helps.

The coldest I have ever seen it was the winter of 77. I lived in MN at the time, temp was -59°F wind chill factor was -110°F The basterds didn't even close the school. That was until the buses called in that their radiators were turning to slush when they drove down the road.

Close school? at -30C, we don't close school.

But if its under -40, it might. Depending on the windchill factor.

You all must be getting your tempratures mixed up. If it was -40C out side, it would only take a few minutes before you would pass-out, are you sure you're nt alking about -40F?

Pass out? I've been outside when it is -40C! And -40C IS equal to -40F.
You may pass out if you're outside naked for 5 minutes. But if you dress up warmly, you'll be okay. Just jeans, sweaters and a jacket, wouldn't be enough to be outside for a long time. You need windproof or winter pants over your jeans. When I ran from my work to my home (2 minutes away), I only had my jeans, my legs was already starting to feel cold so I went in home and waited for a few minutes to warm up, then got the extension cord and ran back to work, plugged in my car and ran into the store.
My point, if you dress up properly, you'll be fine outside.
I have a friend who lives in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. Thats one of the coldest spot in Canada (Very far up north in Canada), when it dips to -80C (-112F) at nights and -75C (-103F) during the day. She works there in the aviation, and gets good pay. Anyway, it is damn cold, obviously, that you have to wear layers of clothes, two jackets or something, a few pants, and need a warm hood that will cover your whole face, except for your eyes. And you STILL can't be outside longer than 10 or 15 minutes.
