My "NewDoom" Story!

A long time ago on a PC far,far away....
Well, I got Internet and surely a newcomer in this area so I searched around for Doom with Yahoo! Well, I found a big resource site called DoomWorld!I happend to be there every day :-/
Then, a few months later I was a bit interested in HexenII and finally entered a site of the Mindless Games Network! After browsing through the sites for some time, I discovered a "LINK" to "NEWDOOM.COM" and from this click away, my number one of Doomsites is NEWDOOM! I use the Newdoom Forums, I post News to Newdoom, I'm hosted by Newdoom, I take a look at Newdooms News 2 times a day and I LOVE Newdoom! So, now, tell me your story about NEWDOOM!

I discovered the Announcement on June 2nd, one day late, because my acknowleged membership in the Doom community had degraded as I visited less and less). In shock and excitement that id were beginning work on a new Doom game, I browsed around a little more, and looked at some of the few things that stood out. Already, someone had organized a forum for comments on John Carmack's last .plan update, and so I looked through it. Was it wmull who said something like the following?

It's ironic; I had just registered NEWDOOM.com! If you [Carmack] want it, it's all yours.

So, of course, I had to check out the url. Alas, it wasn't ready yet. I checked a couple days later, saw it all, and here I am today.

I heard about it on ***world. Doomnation had been malkied, and I was real annoyed because doomhq is not worth a **** and doomshak was almost as bad. Anyway, I was checking out the comments on the forum and I belive it waqs Daggah who said:

"NEWDOOM.com is utter shite"

or something like that. I checked it out, found that he was talking out of his arse, and here I am today.

Interesting fact: I was originally VERY opposed to the newdoom forums... In fact, I cursed and swore at our beloved Wmull (haloed be thy name).

By the way I came across newdoom (pardon the expression) when some news was posted on another site about jdoom. Think it was the shack. Anyway got asked to be hosted and the rest is history. BTW Thanks william for giving me the chance to do the news updates.

Newdoom DIDN'T suck, and have terrorized it since.

Yep. That's pretty much how I found it too. Some people on the DW forums were saying how much newdoom.com sucked. I decided to see for myself. Turns out it didn't suck. I didn't think it was bad at all.

I was wandering around the Half-Life Construction forums and started to look for some info for some guy who was having editing problems (can't remember the problem) and I ended up going over to PlanetQuake. It was there that I saw some basic info about the fact that id™ was making a new DooM game. YAY!

The basic information about the new game at that time was very foggy and unclear. I posted in a couple of places about the new game and people seemed to think that id™ was making a game based on the old DooM engine!

So I decided to look for more info about the new DooM game and with the help of a search engine (probably google) I quickly found a cool DooM site called NewDoom.com & the rest is history.

wmull - No, I haven't created Maps for Heretic II or Hexen II! I only play these games to get ideas of leveldesign for my own Maps! So I often download some Maps from the Heretic and Hexen sites at the Mindless Game Network!

FACE.UK - Yes, I look at the news twice a day! I always hope to discover something new and interesting! And NO! I'm not crazy! :-P

Everyone else - Doomworld is $#*§$), Doomshack is much more '"!*$§""§$%, DoomHQ is the greatest '#*§%" I ever saw and I'm glad, that FRAG.COM is down forever and we won't see this $§%(§"# Doomnation anymore.. I did a search for "doom" and up came dozens and dozens of places. One was NewDoom.
I liked the main page header graphic, and bookmarked it straight away.

I never bothered to look for anything doom related as I thought nobody ever played it anymore. I was pretty amazed to find this big Doom community existed at all.

But mainly, I wanted to find out what happened to Doom, why id did not make a sequel, and did the Quake series instead.

I still have not really found a suitable answer to this fundamental question yet...
I think id just lost it's way after Doom, and has been floundering ever since, looking for that big ground breaking hit like Doom was.
They improved the engines light years ahead, but forgot to include a story.
So now, finally, they realize their mistakes, and go crawling back to the best FPS ever created...Doom !
In hopes of recreating that original success, this time armed with a decent story I hope !

It's just amazing how I watched this place grow, from a site with noting and very bad news updates, and ultra-low traffic, to higher traffic, excellent news updates, VERY busy forums, and the like.

It started way back in April of this year. I was looking at the Doomworld site, looking at one of the cool project there, Ghostbusters Doom. It inspired me. I had started a facility level and and archives level for GoldenEye about a year ago, then I decided to do an entire TC. Well I didn't know much about editing so I went into the forum of DW. One of the people said that a new doom site (newdoom.com) had just come up. So I sent a news descrbing to newdoom about my TC GoldenEye and Wmull replied whould you like being hosted? I was astonished that DW never said anything and then so became active on newdoom. When I first joined newdoom the only site on here was Jdoom.
Ever since my loyalities are placed here at newdoom.com

I was a regular poster on the old Doom Legacy Forums, back when frag.com existed. One day my computer had a fit and died, so i cut my isp account. 3 or months later I went on a library Computer to check emails, and see if there where any updates 4 doomlegacy + the posts. The computer churned away and did nothing. At first i thought it was the computers firewall. Eventually i got a new computer with a free isp, and tried again to get into the doomlegacy site. I gave up, and went to the trusty old search engine Dogpile and typed "doomlegacy doom 1& 2 addons ports, etc" It came up with a few sites, but the one that caught my eye was newdoom.com/doomlegacy - i clicked it and thus was introduced to newDoom.com and have been a beheaded follower ever since

I came across Newdoom.com by accident (probally from Doomworld, which I often read but was, and am still not, registered on!) one day, around when the New Doom game was announced. Only now have I started posting in these forums. So, I'm new here.

How I found newdoom...

It was back in August ((early August I think)) I had just had my first modem installed. I could now afford the bill. Anywho... I was have been a crazed doomer for 6 years and I when I got doomCAD ((1998)) I was so happy. I was making WADs like a twat... But with games like Half-life and Quake 2 out I believed I was he only doomer still out there

So with my new internet I started like MAD looking for Doom Stuff!

"Doom Legacy? What's that?" With that I down loaded doom legacy! For 3 weeks I was visting the Legacy site til one Day...

"Doom Legacy has moved, you can find it at NEWDOOM.COM"

"NEWDOOM? WTF?"
