CRETE's Laser Cutter Weapon

I think ole CRETE actually came up with a pretty nifty weapon the other day. No dude besides myself even bothered to comment on it. :/

This tool could come in handy to like cut through some heavy wiring to get a faulty door to open. I was thinkin' if this was a morphing weapon that you could : 1) Use like a rifle, but would have a steady cuttin beam. It would'nt be a pulse style thingy, because that was sorta already done. 2 ) With a few adjustments the item morphs / folds into a enginer style of cutting torch.

Or should this thing be just a cutting tool. A tool that is still capable of killin' a imp.

My idea was to just have it act as a normal super powerful laser would.
Constant Stream. Cuts through anything. Eats up power.

Yeah, I like the idea. I hope id likes it too (not that they'll ever know about it), because I want it in the game. Yeah, that's what I meant too: constant beam! Eats up power sounds logical. If it had a small battery pack & solar cell, you could use it, then stash it in a sunny location to recharge it for later use.

Yeah, that's a pretty good idea...and it would be funny (and a nice touch) if an imp wondered over to it, swallowed it, and you hear this sudden hissing sound and then the imp blows up!!

This things gotta be powerful.
Therefore it's gotta be big. I could see maybe a demon wolfing it down but not an imp. It's gotta be about a big and square as the DOOM II plasma gun.

CRETE dude. Is it a rifle thing your thinkin' of or a torch jobby? You said that the player should get it off a dead engineer marine guy. Maybe its a big powerfull torch used for cutting power conduits and heavy sheet metal. It be battery powered like I said. Do you like the solar recharge thing?

It's a tool that was designed to be held like a minigun.
The marines were sent in aided by engineers and what would now be known as tunnel rats. These military aides would help Marine platoons get through passages and obstacles that conventional weapons couldn't destroy. Solar panels are a good excuse for self replenishment but I figure that they were designed to be used in space, underground and in heavily fortified fortresses where solar panels aren't needed.

A cutting laser, neat Idea, would be good for dismemberment (assuming Dismemberment will be in Doom 3).
