I think it will be called DooM or DooM III unless they're being sneaky.
They're also being very quiet lately....

It's not illegal. You can't infringe upon your own copyrighted material http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif
Besides, movie remakes go by the same title all the time! Look at House on Haunted Hill, and the Time Machine, and so on.

Taking into effect that Doom 3 is a remake nd that Carmack asks us to assume that Doom and Doom 2 never happened, Then logically, you cant use a reference to any of the existing titles.
Judging by the content seen so far HEres my title:
DOOM: Repentence Is Irrelevent.
Teaser: .....Satan obeys no laws, Evil has no heart. When the Portals to Doom open, only one man stands between Hell and Earth. Repentence is irrelevent.

For as long as ID software exists, there will be new versions of doom.
In Carmacks own words "Doom is our baby"
in Tom hollensheds words "Doom is our franchise"
They cant have Wolf as their own because Wolfestein was made by another company prior to the making of Wolfenstein 3-D by Id Software.
So very good chance there willbe a doom IV
and quite possible Doom 5(much much later with even bigger PC gamming technology)
i was recently looking at some VR gear. some company had VR gear that would work with the nVidia cards. Their driver sits in between, takes the video signal, converts it to 3d, and then the VR glasses do the rest. And if you buy the "head locator" then you wont even need the mouse as teh game wil follow whichever way you look!
Technology is certainly getting up there....and by the reaease of doom 5...we may all be sitting with VR units challanging people over the net.
perhaos not so distant into the future, your own physical stamina will determine how good you are at the game(like eplaying paintball) cos teh VR equipment might be so advanced that you cn just run on the spot and the game will respond. Run on a Table of small balls which would mean you can run in any direction like running on a treadmill. Games will no longer be bad for health! think of the fitness benefits!
heh.

And it would feel odd having the equivalent of one hundred upside-down mice underfoot.
However if there was a way to stablize the player on the "rollermill" like a hard vest that connects to the frame.
Or the input device could be an optical sensor akin to having an optical mouse upside-down with some glass or accryllic over the sensor and then get some shoes with non-marking soles (like the rubber on the tires of electric wheelchairs or powerchairs}.
Shadow Master
October 9th, 2002, 11:29 PM
heh.
listen guys.i didnt say the technology exists now. and the rollers was justone example.
i'm sure there might be another way. But ,murphys law...anything can happen will happen.
May take a few years, but someones going to come up with something.
But its stil linterestign to discuss possible ways in whcih somone running on a platform on the spot for a gam can be achieved so that no matter which direction they physically turn, they can continue running without running off the platform.
and personally, i would love to get physical. thats because i like playing painball, and well, an FPS game would be a cheaper way of exploring. I dontm ind sweating and being out of breath. Aleadt it will be a big plus with the health departments of every country! Computer geeks will start to become the fittest people around! On average, a game spends 4 hours in a game a day. COmbine thatw ith some kind of fitness device and you have a 4 hour workout every day. If you dont get fit with that, i would be very supprised!

Duke3D supported VR glasses (not that anyone owned those things). It also supported those red and blue glasses. That was fun.
I'm very disappointed that VR games never caught on yet. The ones in arcades had shit graphics and the home systems (which worked with better graphics) never caught on.
One of my ideas for physical interaction with a game is to connect the speedometer on an exercise bike to a port on a PC. Then I could use the input from that as a means to control the speed the player runs in Legacy or something. If you could pedal faster you could be better at DM. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

before that people will probly need to learn how to safely jack directly into a computer like in the Matrix. Not everyone would want an implant & how much damage would a computer virus do in a brain? Or the possibility of a new kind of computer generated virus, one designed to attack a person.

Brains don't store and process information in the same way. That would be an extremely complex interface. And yeah, a virus that messes with the input could potentially kill you in a hurry. That technology might never happen though.

deathgiver.
Yes.
i think doom 3 is going to be the anivesary release of Doom.
Carmack said he doesnt want ID to be one of those companys toshow a game twice at an E3 expo.
Given the relevent data and movies(even stolen ones which i have seen), the game looked near completion.
Further time will require more code editing for newer released cards otherwise they risk releasing a game that will annoy the serious gamer.
There is a sudden lack of information on the internet about the game. Possibly to make a bigger marketing impact when they do start their marketing campaign.
logial reasoning my friend.
the "approximate"..not accurate release time is there. Give or take 3 weeks.
If you look hard enough for the clues, the realese time is there.

Wouldn't that be December 10th, Shadow Master?
Shadow Master
October 16th, 2002, 08:11 PM
Logic, Death Giver.
2003 will be 10 years.
but Carmack doesnt want to demo doom 3 on a E3 show twice.
logical assumption is that maximum possible time is march 2003.
Another thing to note is that there has been a lot of info(a lot for a game supposed being developed in secret), if they released it in December..it will be too late. PEople would/might have lost interest. The marketting geniuses at ID would strongly fight that release date.
annivasary relese date is more a Symbol rather then the exact date/time. 1993 + 10 = 2003 = annivasary relese. whetater they release it at midnight January 1st 2003, or december 10th, midnight. its still going to be an annivasary release. but december 10 is going to be a bit late. Hard core doomers like us will buy it reguardless...but there are a lot of people that outnumber the hard core dommers who ID needs to target as well before they lose interest in the game.
