With all the excitment of Doom 3 being announced, the Doom 64 projects sprouting up, and such, it's brought to my mind a question I've wondered for a long time: Whatever happened to Doom 64: Absolution? The supposed sequel that appeared in a few adds for a couple of game retailers in EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly). When I called and asked they were even taking reservations. This has been a while ago now, but it still crosses my mind sometimes. I mean, it's kinda stupid to go off and make one game for the N64, going to all the work to build the new sprites, textures, and such, without ever using them again. What I want to know is if anyone else had hear of D64: Absolution and their opinion on it. I agree with Kaiser about Doom 3 too, I personally think since Doom 2 came out Id's been getting stupider with each release.

Doom64 didn't sell well. (what do you expect, it was a Nintendo 64 game ffs) so Midway didn't had enough money to create a sequel, even though they announced it....

For all it's lovely light sourcing and fog, the Doom64 enemies looked like they were made of plasticine.

Those are good points. I guess you have to take into consideration the system itself. Man, they need to remake it for the Gamecube or something, I mean, the Gamecube may not be much in comparison the the X-Box and PS2, but I don't think it'll just up and croak over like the N64 and Dreamcast. Actually, one of the things that I think killed the 64 were the prices on the gamess, talking $70 for a new game! Plus, they weren't even worth buying! Cept' for D64.

Gamecube was some hardware advantages or PS2 I think. I've seen some really good games so a DooM title could do well.
N64 games usually had crap graphics if you ask me. The lighting engines were worse than Quake I in so many ways. They don't even use real light sourcing or true static light maps.

Well, since it appears there isn't a TRUE Doom game coming out, it's up to us mappers to do the work for id. Yeah, the Gamecube could most definatly hold one. To tell the truth, i think they should re-release D64 on it, kinda like they did with The Ultimate Doom on the PC, and include some extra levels. Shoot, D64 had to be one of the most popular games on the N64, since there weren't many to begin with. Shoot, why not? Sega seems to be re-releasing their DC titles everywhere.

Nintendo did Super Smash Bros. Melee and that's one of their best games ever so it proves Gamecube can do good re-releases. Why not DooM?
