About doom 3,

It's coming, the screenshots are in, the demo has been played, now it's just a long long wait and hoping they are doing a nice job.

The one thing that made the doom series, and quake 1 to my alltime favourites was the enormous levels with hundreds of demons, the great music (even as midi) and sound effects. (Quake2 was not like that anymore, with that shit hard-rock) The music should be dramatic and sober, like the music in quake 1 was very good. It shouldn't be music, it should be more like a sort of trip which walks in synchrony with the game. The music in the very beginning of quake in level 1 ep 1 is just brilliant. So dark. (maybe some slow prodigy-tunes in doom3?? without voices ofcourse).
Anyway, the music from quake2 was just horrible.

But I'll continue about the graphics and levels. Doom 1 and 2 (and quake) had the best singleplayer and too multiplayer levels I ever played on any 3-d shooter ever. They where filled with secrets and traps. You could never be certain what would happen if you'd step into that silent pentagram (level 20 doom 1 is a very good example). Quake2 failed there because it tried to make it's levels look human, that wasn't nice. The trick was in doom that you descended from the likely human base into the hellbaron infested "hell", where everything could happen. Lost souls rule! I really really hope they will make doom3 like they made the last doom 1 2 and resp. quake 1. Because you've got to hand me, quake 2 AND quake 3 sucked big time. Ok, quake 3 wasn't singleplayer but it was too hyped. They failed on all fronts. Please!! in doom 3, give them a lott of monsters at the same time.

And those HUGE levels. That is what made doom so good. The freedom to pick your fights, to make the demons fight each other. When you fired a bfg - shot, you could hit about 20 monsters all in once. And those sound effects, you could hear all the time from those monsters where great!

Or the doors. That screeching when it opened, it really added to the suspense.

I really think they need to include the hellbarons again and the cacodemons too! That should be no problem with the flashy 3-d engine. But PLEASE, keep the polygons down a little so we can fight about 20 3-d monsters at once? It's so much better for the fun, the game. Graphics are not that really important for the game. I'm satisfied with graphics like the old unreal.

I'd (almost everyone) rather shoot 20 monsters from 300 polygons than only ONE made out of 3000 polygons.

And they should put in different levels of AI this time. Make the zombiemen dumb, like the standard shoot, walk/strafe , shoot in doom. And give the hellbarons a good AI. Maybe even a small random system so they would be ... wait for it.... unpredictable. So a real tournament between you and the monsters can start.

It would make it even scarier. You must get players to play a level again and again for fun (doom series), not just to end it like in quake2.

And whoever designed those HO-RI-BLE levels for q2, please sack that idiot. Quake2 was kiddy. Oh yes, that brings me to the final point: PLEASE ADD GORE!!! I want those little zombieguys to explode again, when you rocket them or blast'em next to an exploding barrel. That sound was soo good. If you know what I mean with doom-feel, please, please, please, give comment on my oppinion. So I know I'm not the only soul here who's sworn loyal to the original dooms. I'm not crazy am I?

I thank you gods of 3-d shooters

Oh YESMake a VERY NASTY End boss. You've always failed there. Cyberdemon was cool, but no endboss. Quake one had a VERY good one, that red guy at the end of episode 1 but it severely disappointed at episode 4. Nobody likes a boss that does nothing! And quake 2..... that was absolutely WORTHLESS. Really, fire the guy(s) who made the skins and character models in q2, HE SUCKS.

Dear ID... Don't make doom3 such a kiddy title like how you raped quake2.

Quake 2 is not a kiddy title. The weapons are actualy more realistic then quake 1 or doom. You have the right idea but you are criticizing the wrong thing. Quake2 had nothing to do with quake. Quakes them was going into hell and blowing the crap out of monsters. Quake2 was not hell oriented it was more sci fi futer. Not a bad thing but it is insulting to peoples intelligence that they could be tricked into thinking they were playing quake.

Yeah, Q and Q2 have pretty much nothing in common. Hell, the heros aren't even the same. Guess either id was lazy to come up with a new name or figured Q was a good sucess, if we name it Q2 people will think sequal and sequal usaully means better than the oringal. Of course how id thinks is a mystery of its own.

DOES Id think??? All their games are mindless and most of them have been only graphics oriented. Some days it seems like mostly Carmack thinks, but since he only knows graphics what good is that?

I guess id makes game engines that have flashy graphics, then lets the other companys make the rest (Isn't everything based off some version of Quake these days).

Can't be, Q2 is the only game (correct me if I'm wrong) that has flies fly around the guy you justed killed if you do not blow him into bits and pieces.

Yeah, that's damned kewl shit, but how do those flies appear out of nowhere like that so fast. Some critter dies and it's instant flies.

Quake2 and Quake share very little apart from their names and their full-on action perspective.

Besides this is a thread about DooM 3, nothing to do with Quake so get back on topic.

Id are a company with a management almost immune to marketing pressures. The programmers create a game that fits their vision of it.

DooM III will spawn from the same spirit that produced DooM and DooM II.

Even if every monster is changed, we can rest assured that it will have the same spirit as the originals and will probably be what DooM would have been if the technology was available at the time.

It will be just as good as its predecessors, Id won't release anything worse as a sequel.
