About doom 3,
It's coming, the screenshots are in, the demo has been played, now it's just a long long wait and hoping they are doing a nice job.
The one thing that made the doom series, and quake 1 to my alltime favourites was the enormous levels with hundreds of demons, the great music (even as midi) and sound effects. (Quake2 was not like that anymore, with that shit hard-rock) The music should be dramatic and sober, like the music in quake 1 was very good. It shouldn't be music, it should be more like a sort of trip which walks in synchrony with the game. The music in the very beginning of quake in level 1 ep 1 is just brilliant. So dark. (maybe some slow prodigy-tunes in doom3?? without voices ofcourse).
Anyway, the music from quake2 was just horrible.
But I'll continue about the graphics and levels. Doom 1 and 2 (and quake) had the best singleplayer and too multiplayer levels I ever played on any 3-d shooter ever. They where filled with secrets and traps. You could never be certain what would happen if you'd step into that silent pentagram (level 20 doom 1 is a very good example). Quake2 failed there because it tried to make it's levels look human, that wasn't nice. The trick was in doom that you descended from the likely human base into the hellbaron infested "hell", where everything could happen. Lost souls rule! I really really hope they will make doom3 like they made the last doom 1 2 and resp. quake 1. Because you've got to hand me, quake 2 AND quake 3 sucked big time. Ok, quake 3 wasn't singleplayer but it was too hyped. They failed on all fronts. Please!! in doom 3, give them a lott of monsters at the same time.
And those HUGE levels. That is what made doom so good. The freedom to pick your fights, to make the demons fight each other. When you fired a bfg - shot, you could hit about 20 monsters all in once. And those sound effects, you could hear all the time from those monsters where great!
Or the doors. That screeching when it opened, it really added to the suspense.
I really think they need to include the hellbarons again and the cacodemons too! That should be no problem with the flashy 3-d engine. But PLEASE, keep the polygons down a little so we can fight about 20 3-d monsters at once? It's so much better for the fun, the game. Graphics are not that really important for the game. I'm satisfied with graphics like the old unreal.
I'd (almost everyone) rather shoot 20 monsters from 300 polygons than only ONE made out of 3000 polygons.
And they should put in different levels of AI this time. Make the zombiemen dumb, like the standard shoot, walk/strafe , shoot in doom. And give the hellbarons a good AI. Maybe even a small random system so they would be ... wait for it.... unpredictable. So a real tournament between you and the monsters can start.
It would make it even scarier. You must get players to play a level again and again for fun (doom series), not just to end it like in quake2.
And whoever designed those HO-RI-BLE levels for q2, please sack that idiot. Quake2 was kiddy. Oh yes, that brings me to the final point: PLEASE ADD GORE!!! I want those little zombieguys to explode again, when you rocket them or blast'em next to an exploding barrel. That sound was soo good. If you know what I mean with doom-feel, please, please, please, give comment on my oppinion. So I know I'm not the only soul here who's sworn loyal to the original dooms. I'm not crazy am I?
I thank you gods of 3-d shooters
Oh YESMake a VERY NASTY End boss. You've always failed there. Cyberdemon was cool, but no endboss. Quake one had a VERY good one, that red guy at the end of episode 1 but it severely disappointed at episode 4. Nobody likes a boss that does nothing! And quake 2..... that was absolutely WORTHLESS. Really, fire the guy(s) who made the skins and character models in q2, HE SUCKS.
Dear ID... Don't make doom3 such a kiddy title like how you raped quake2.
