View Full Version : Secondary weapon fire?

Should the New Doom have that? My opinion, well it's hard to say. I like the secondary fire, it gives me some variety, or some flexibility. I mean, if I see a shotguy, I could just use my MP5 and belt him with some lead. But if I run into a caco, I could just run back and lob a grenade at him, without having to stumble around with weapons.
But, it wouldn't seem DooMish.
Though, I have faith in id Software. They can make it DooMish, but have a lot of new features.
Anyone?

The old Doom weapons shouldn't be altered by giving them a secondary fire option, but some of the new weapons - if there will be any - could have that, I suppose, as long as it doesn't screw up multiplayer or alter the Doom feeling.

I say there should definitely be a secondary fire, at least on some weapons. Like on the double barrel shotgun. Primary fire = 1 barrel and secondary = 2 barrels firing.

Using secondary fire will eliminate having to switching between some weapons. DooM_Dude's example of the shotgun and the SSG is a good one.
Also, if id decides to keep the same weapons, they could have powerups that upgrade them -- for example, the rocket launcher would fire rockets, but when fitted with a grenade launcher would lob grenades too. Likewise, the plasma rifle could be fitted with an attachment that narrows the plasma beam to work like a laser or rail gun (I know that a rail gun is a projectile weapon and a plasma rifle is an energy weapon -- I was just using the rail gun as an example.)

They already have a secondary firing option in edge. But I agree with it in Doom 3. As for the upgrades, I want them. They already have them in Parasite Eve 2. You can attach a flamelauncher on a machinegun.

A flame-thrower would be cool. It reminds me of Blood, where the incendiary pistol sets the zombies on fire, and they run around like chickens with their nuts cut off http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smilies/cwm27.gif

There is a FPS for PS2 called "Red Faction," featuring weapons with two ways to use them. You could fire short bursts with a machine gun or let it rip all-out. You could regularly fire the flamethrower or you could unscrew the canister and throw it like a grenade. Secondary fire is really cool... Let's see it in the new Doom. http://forums.newdoom.com/UBB/smile.gif

Red Faction is on PC too. It's been out for a little while now.

I haven't played it but I hope it comes out for X-Box. I just love fps games and other games that have a lot of action. Halo is a great example.

If you want secondary fire, you should play the game that PD (the game that started it, but I'm probably wrong). One moment its a regular grenade, next moment its a proximty pinball.

Would they still use MP5s in doom?
And was the plasma rifle made by H&K?
And how do you rifle plasma?

How do you even shoot plasma out of a little battery powered gun?
What I really wonder about is the phaser rifles on Star Trek. Why would you need to rifle a big laser gun? And how can phasers have a range.
Actually, why don't plasma rifles have a range?

In theory, the gun should implode and create a huge nuclear blast. But of course, that probably isn't covered by the warranty.

What the blast just mutate the imps and make them even worse. The best idea so far was the pants launcher. While the imps are trying them on your whip out your shotgun and the rest is self-explantory.
