I wouldn't mind if id put a grenade launcher in The New Doom. Not exactly something new but it's a weapon i always liked. Should id use this weapon or is it a little too old school? Maybe with a little thought we can come up with a cool variation on this classic device of destuction. How about a napalm type of grenade or a grenade that explodes into hot bits of scrapnel (like the lava nails in quake)?

When I hear "grenade Launcher" I think quake.
Quake is good but DOOM is better. The weapons have to be original DOOM or original period.

Here's an idea...
How about something like a snark launcher. Obviously it wouldn't be exactly the same as the snarks from half-life and they would probably be called something different, look creepier and slimier, and be more vicious.
The good thing about it launching out of a gun is that in half-life you couldn't always get to where you want be here you can project them out far out.

I remember first seeing the alien arm gun in Redneck Rampage and thinking it ws hilarious!

What about a weapon that fires a sphere of burning acid. When it hits an enemy, it gets covered in the crap. Also you can hit a wall and have acid spray several enemies at once. Watch the imps dance in the corrosive stuff. It would be funny to shoot some imp in the ass with this corrosive junk.

'Taint a bad idea but what about range?
It would have more distance than a firehose, right? Lord knows that it won't look like one. I mean, are we to believe that this is some sort of magical xzyloph- I mean garden hose? I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

I don't think id Software would want to get involved with adding elements from the Simpsons to new Doom. Although I wouldn't mind seeing some Itchy and Scratchy skins :)
The grenade launcher and rocket launcher were the best weapons of their type in Quake 1. If the new Doom had weapons like Quake 1's, it would be a lot better.
What's this about some Orgasm Gun? I mean, wtf? Sounds like something from a new Duke Nukem game!
The acid shooter doesn't sound like a bad idea, but imps are already immune to toxic waste flooding the floors and even their own mucus-fire balls...so I don't think corrosive acid would effect them too much...

Quake one weapons were icked stupid lookun.
My main problem with the grenade launcher is that it seems to be getting progressively worse. Quake 1 grenade launcher was awesome. Quake two's I never used. The one from Q III is timed so that if I'm running and i shoot it, it ends up blowing up under my feet amd killing me.

I completely disagree with you people, I think there should be biological weapons as well as big weapons, realistic weapons and have the biggest arsenal a game has ever had.

Bioweapons have been done.
All weapons should be weapons that are realistic in about a century from now. The weapons should also correspond with the plot. The only reason you find bigger weapons later is because the other marines made it farther into the game with them. Who's gonna die in the first level with a kickin weapon like a rocket launcher?

I don't understand why people want such a huge inventory of weapons! This isn't an RPG here, this is Doom. There should be at most ten weapons, and that's it. Keep it simple, like all id games are! That's what makes them great.

Since Zack pointed out that imps are imprevious to acid then perhaps a gun that shoots imp snacks would be cool. That way when they're feeding you can walk up to them and cut their throats with a big a$$ed knife!

Sound effects contribute a great deal, imo, to the quality of a weapon. Doom's rocket launcher, and Quake's grenade and rocket launchers, when firing, make the kewlest sound, and that's one reason they are my favorite weapons in those games...

Tell you one thing...After playing the shareware for so long, hearing the plasma shot for the first time is pretty damn loud and surprising! Especially when you play at midnight after everyone else went to bed :)

You people are the only people I know that don't want many weapons. I see what you mean that it is easier to just tap a number and pull out a weapon but that doesn't mean you should only have 10. How about it moves down to the letters at the top too?

Like i said before, id will put in the number of weapons that they figure should exist in the New Doom anyway. I don't think we have much influence in this area. What i originally posted was: Do we wan't a grenade launcher? I do, do you too???

Well if we have to have a grenade launcher then yes, there should be many types of grenades. Secondary fire should change grenage type maybe.
I think there should be a secondary fire for every gun. Which game had better weapons? Unreal tournament or quake 3 arena?
Well I'm predicting you're going to say unreal tournament...right? Well you should as they all had completely different types of fire. Having a grenade launcher attached to a gun is what they should do in the new doom I think. Maybe for the rocket launcher or a machine gun.

I can't see why some of these other dudes are so against secondary fire. Besides not all of the weapons need to have secondary. I think it could add some nice variation to the gameplay. Also it could be implemented that a grenade will blast a imp or human enemy over a cliff or into a trap. Now wouldn't that be a laugh? BOOOOM, goodbye imp! Nah. I'm okay with the grenade launcher, but I'd rather stick to just one type of grenade. I don't know who Jane is. I'm all for simplicity in the interface, and I believe secondary fire is bad. I never used it in half-life, because I mostly forgot about it! And when my finger slipped, I blew myself up. What kind of machine gun launches explosives!!
So like I said, the simpler the interface and HUD, the better. That's the way it has always been with id's games. The levels, of course, should remain good and complex. Let's hope the new Doom engin allows for more than 10 monsters per sector and very large open areas!!!

Who the heck wants to have to use three hands and a keyboard overlay to do stuff. I don't think havin' some weapons with secondary fire = messed up interface. But if it comes down to either: 1) regular, old, normal, grenade launcher. OR: 2) no grenade launcher. Then I will take the regular jobby. No need to get all fancy and have some variety in the game. Nope, we surely don't wanna let id software get any funny ideas!

I want a shockwave type a grenade that blows the crap outta windows, computers and furniture. A grenade that will blow creatures off of ledges and tear trees outta the ground. Stuff like that.

Big explosions are even better, especially from a well placed grenade! Kill the imps! Eat explosions you scum suckers! Say, what about a heat seeking grenade that bounces towards the enemy? But if you hit a wall, it starts to bounce after you . Then you get all freaked out and try to outrun it. Ahhhhhhhhhh. Get it off me!

Makin' a grenade ricochet off of a door frame and into a room is cool. Layin' down some grenades during a retreat is cool. So all I really want is a grenade launcher and a cool game to use it in. Some different grenades might be cool. Maybe the id dudes will surprise us with some alternate grenades or somethin'!?

As far as gren launchers... well they are pretty cool.. but not normal grenades. Grenades that have burning plasma explosions or something? Just something that would look cool and futuristic... like all the other weapons in DooM http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif
Secondary fire is works pretty well from my experience.. but it does tend to make the weapon system a bit unwieldly. Can confuse some players if there are too many options http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

Im about as pissed as it comes with all these little spits in the bucket talking about crappy weapons and the like.

And I don't want to see any demonized or biological weapons either - those are strictly for the extreme sci-fi games. And if you did have a biological wepaon... why doesn't it just attack you?
the BFG needs to come back, that's a general consensus. But it needs to be more flexible - it needs to shoot the big ball again and it also needs to fire small bursts (like q3's), because then it becomes more functional. I also opt for the BFG to have an instantaneous beam attack - and as much as i don't like the concept it does seem to make for a sniper's weapon (infinite range, extreme accuracy, enough damage to kill...)
I absolutly do not want to see any cheap weapons in the game like a railgun that can kill instantly from a very far distance. Sure there can be a "railgun" par-se, but it can't shoot big slugs anymore, maybe it should be like a machinegun that shoots bullets that are 2-3x as powerful as standard bulelts, but uses energy cells in the process (and leaves a small translucent teal trail behind them too).
Shotguns have gotten boring, and they need to do something to change them. They have to look high-tech, at least of quake2 quality. They need to either be clip-fed or belt-fed so that they can be fired w/o reloading.
Plasma Rifle needs to have an alternate fire that shoots one big plasma ball instead of lots of little ones (maybe do as much damage as a rocket, kinda like the blasters on stargate).
We need weapons and more of them. Perhaps an assualt rifle and rifle in addition to the chaingun. Some extra "energy" weapons thatare less powerful than the ones we have already (maybe a heavy plasma rifle that is a step below the BFG, or a blaster pistol like quake2's as a step below the plasma rifle).

They already said there would be no rocket launcher, and it makes me want to cry. But maybe they will put something better than that in there (the grenade launcher was mighty powerful in shadow warrior).
I want to see a submachinegun, but it shouldn't have that good of an accuracy and should need reloading all the time

You know what? Why don't have some of the more 'smarter' enemies be able to see you throwing a grenade at them, then they'll just run, scoop it up and chuck it back at you. Now thats some challenge!
It always annoyed me how I toss one and they stand next to it, knowing it's there and not do anything about it. Now thats something Half Life did well, I chucked one at some soldiers and scientists sometimes, they fleed away from the grenade.

I was thinking weapon modifications would be cool. Being able to toggle explosive shells for shotguns, incendary rockets, 2 modes for the plasma rifle rapid fire or pulse shot(weaker bfg), Armor percing rounds for chaingun. Theres a gattling gun that the military uses in real life that shoots 3 types of bullets, i think theyre... standard, armor piercing, and a type of incendary. Im not sure someone woul have to ask around about it. But being able to find a bullet box containing all 3 rounds would rock. Either you can toggle one or use all 3. And whole but just having various different weapon models or skins you can find around maps. Being able to drop your weapon and pick up another one that mite say "born to kill" on it. bleh what else... Different types of pulse guns would be nice. Some that are the same kind of gun, they just look different and have different looking shots. Mebbe doom finally trashed the handgun and got a lazer blaster... Naw that handgun been there for em for to long, its a keeper. Blaster would be a pistol upgrade. Rail gun mebbe? I dont wanna jus see origonal doom stuff, this is the new doom! it needs shit we have never seen before along with the older stuff.

How about a Pants Launcher?
You shoot pants to those naked Imps, or other pantsless demons, and as they are putting on some pants, you pull out the BFG, and kill them off before they can do anything!

Then:
(a) Don't use the Pants Launcher
(b) If all monsters are wearing them, there'd be no use for the weapon.
(c) Shoot pants over floaters to weigh them donw and confuse them.

The chances of the New DooM having no rocket launcher are extremely slim. With the creatures that we say in that Doom movie.......a rocket launcher looks like a must have.

How about the laser from DooM 64 along with the three power-ups. And the ablity to edit the "What the !@#$% is this" message to "What the HELL is this" or "What the FUCK is this". And maybe give some other weapons the ability to be upgraded (e.g. Rocket launcher shooting more than one rocket or shooting them faster). Something along those lines.

Lasers are sux man.
PLEASE oh PLEASE don't let id put that sucky thing into the new doom. I will kill them I they do. I should have killed them for what they did in DooM 64... but I blame that more on those other shitty developers that worked on it. (non - id, cant remember shitty company)
Anyways... I still stick by my grenade launcher with the lot idea.

The laser kicks ass when you get all the power-ups for it. Of course that is a rather hard feat. Just finding the secret levels with them is hard. But I think you change your mind if you saw that laser with all the power-ups. It does without out them though.

1. ok, first, where are the power ups in doom 64!?!?!!? I HAVE LOOKED FOR THOSE THINGS FOREVER!!! i mena i have beat the game, WITHOUT them, it was hard, i'm sure its easier with the power ups. BUT WHERE ARE THEY?!?!?!?
2. Another thing, ID will put the RL in the game, don't worry abhout that

About the weapons, i thnk they should include a enless array of weapons, but instead of holding a rediculous amount of ammo for ALL them... make it a LITTLE more realistic, like 2 or 3 rockets maximum for the rocket launcher, 100 - 250 bullets max, 25 - 40 shells or so. And since there will be more weapns, make it so you can't carry them ALL at the same time, like if you have a RL, a shotgun, 5 grenades, 25 shells for the shotgun, 4 rockets for the RL, a knife, a handgun, with 15 bullets in it, and 2 more clips with 15 bullets each on hand, thats about all one man can carry feasably, say you come accros another weapon, you have to sacrifice some stuff before you can pick up something else, either play some more of the area, kill some things and get some ammo used up so you have room to carry the new weapon, or trade one weapon for the other...
of course i am aware of how this affects game play, you don't want to be bothered with trading inventory, but they could make it easy, like an interface like Quake II's where you can just drop an item as long as its selected, OR you could select the AMMO for that, and drop so many rounds for it to hold other rounds, now the above scenario might apply if you have only a bandolier. Say you come accross some better pants *snicker* with more pockets, or a backpack such as in the original doom, you could then carry a certain amount more inventory. This would play a LARGE roll in the strategy of the game, certain weapons for certain areas
4. for doom dude, the acid sphere, sweet idea man, you could even use it to eat thru certain walls, or grates in the floor to reach other areas and stuff!
