Actuall Notice of Release!

How about something so basic from the Quake 1 days:

Letting us know well in advance when the game will ACTUALLY BE RELEASED?!

I realize this gets harder to do as the sophistication of games gets higher, but if they did this for Quake, why not DooM III?

I think they just started working on this game early this year so it would be a little hard to say when it will be done. But they could at least say what year ie winter of 2002 or fall of 2001.

Well, RIGHT NOW knowing when it'll be done is insane to expect, but when they are very close, they give a date, then push it back a few decades.
This didn't happen with Quake, so it definately shouldn't with DooM III.

They begun working on the new Doom in the spring of 2000 or among there, I would guess, considering that they announced it in June that year, stating that work had been going on on the new Doom in parallel with 'Quest'.
That's about ten months ago, and we can all see what the result this far looks like.
I don't think it will take as long as until 2003 until they release the game. Actually, I think we're going to see the game on the store shelves in the spring of 2002, or perhaps even earlier. That would give id a total of about two years developing it, which seems fair enough regarding their experience and skill.
This, I base partly upon the announcement that Angel Munoz, president of the CPL, made some months ago. He basically said they might be holding a tournament with the new Doom on the CPL event to be held in December 2001. A reckoning, made not by me alone, is that that would be carried out with some sort of test version of the game.
But maybe, and only maybe, id will be able to release the final version in time for the CPL event.

I'd say we're talking either late 2001 or early 2002.

But, whenever the new Doom is going to be relased, it's going to be totally amazing, and well worth the waiting.
