I hope the New Doom doesn't have like little movies in between levels and stuff... I hate that kind of stuff, I just skip them anyways.
Doom isn't a movie, it's a games, and let's keep it that way

Actually i hope they implement the seamless level transition like in Half-Life, so that the levels would flow nicely from one to the other.
It would be cool to see stuff like ingame scripted sequences......remember the "Blast Pit" in Half-Life where the tentacle breaks the window and grabs the scientist, remember the guard who says "hello Gordon Freeman i have a message for you", then a sniper takes him out right before your eyes, remember the beast in the airduct that grabs the scientist and hauls him into the duct? Remember the guard who, after seeing you through the glass pane, walks over to the retinal scanner and uses it to let you in?
Imagine seeing through a bullet proof window, a group of space marines battling some horrid demon and being ripped apart before you can unseal the door. Imagine a demon suddenly running past you from out of a hole and dissappearing around some boxes.....creepy. Imagine coming upon a marine who is dieing, who tells you some info and then keels over. Imagine seeing some demons through a thin crack in a cement wall, who are talking in rough voices about some ambush. After their conversation they split up and walk away. Imagine seeing a marine writhing around on the floor in pain, who suddenly splits wide open as a demon crawls out of the body. Imagine...........the possibilities are endless.
The scripted sequence is a powerfull thing and it is triggered by the player entering a certain area. I bet a lot of you guys didn't know what a scripted sequence was until now. It works so nicely that there isn't any cutting away from the action and the viewpoint of the player doesn't change. Very cool stuff. No wonder so many people are editing Half-Life these days, its so dam versatile and cool.

scripted sequencences are cool.
(I play halflife too even though it got old after playing through the story a few times and opposing force was too short and it sucked)

Like a small child (goldelock style)stuck in a room surrounded by lost souls pleaing
"no mommy,no, please no mommy no MOMMY MOMMMMYY!!!!!!!" as the cretains viciously pick off her flesh and she screams in bloody murder. at that time they should make an env_shooter (shoots gibs and bones or what ever you want it to shoot,if your not familiar with hl editing)or something like it go off and let pieces of flesh and cartlage scatter across the floor and the skulls turning toward you with a half-eaten shirley temple laying in the backround,blood still pouring out of open wounds.Stuff that keeps you up at night thinking..."oh **** , that was a little sick."
Thats the kinda crap im looking foward to in the next doom.I cant f*cking wait.

A little girl gettting picked to peices? No Thank you. I must admit DooM was a bit gory, although It was never exesive as you described.
With the CG graphics that can be made today,it would probally give me nighmares and depression spells. But... if done right,cutscenes would be perfect and give a charicter to our nameless marine.
For a great example of cutscenes done right,look to Theif 2 : The Metal Age. Also one of the best games I have ever played,BTW.
I hate to say it,but Thief 2's atmosphere absolutley crushes any other game's attempt. DooM and a few others are exeptions,but it is the best.
I'm sad Looking Glass Studios disbaned. Damn. Back to the topic,cutscenes haven't been used in any Id game so far...if you don't count Commander Keen or text intermissions. I guess Quake 2 used two in the entire game also.
But for a while now Single Player hasn't been the primary focus (Quake 2 is my favoirite Single Player Shooter,though,just one small tad above Ultimate DooM. Leave it to Id to outdo thereselves http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif)
To the point - Id won't f*ck it up. Trust them. I can't say this more,but they have yet to produce a crappy game. Give em' a little slack.
And yes, I'm still pissed that I can't put my Monkey Logo Animation in my signature.

According to the latest new doom FAQ right here at newdoom.com... id is planning on having 3d rendered cut scenes in the game. http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/frown.gif
I hope they change their minds... or at least make them MINIMAL and focus more on scripted sequences...

I'd like to see the odd fmv cut-scene in Doom3. Even if it's only one at the beginning, and one at the end.
I loved the game-intro movie at the start of Quake2. It really helped by setting the mood, and by setting up the basic story.
Scripted sequences are a must, too. They don't HAVE to be dialogue-scenes that seem to take forever. They'd be best used as action going on in the background.

Hey Cydex, I agree with you. I too like the intro movie for Quake II and the intro's for the mission packs were cool too. I do hate those cut scenes that take away the control of the player, where some idiot is giving you instructions on a mission or whatever, and it goes on and on and on......

Demons (refering to the pink things) cannot talk, they are stupid and wild. You'd know this stuff if you read the four DOOM novels.
My friends hated them but I thought they were good. Knee-Deep in the Dead was the best one.

Huh? Your saying that what's in those 4 novels is written in stone. Just because some lame writter says that demons have no language, doesn't convince me. I can agree that, the pink munchers and Imps may not be able to talk but the higher beings of hell should be able to communicate with one anouther. The Barons and Viles at least, should have enough intelligence to know how to communicate with each other, otherwise, how could they rule hell?
