So where do you lot think this new doom should be set?
A moon? Hell? Earth?
How about all three? Well this is meant to be one of the best games ever.
Doom 2 was meant to be set in earth but we all know it looked nothing like it.
Maybe you come back to earth and you're in the middle of a street with demons running about ripping peoples heads off.

I'm sure id will come up with a good setting for the new doom.

"Maybe you come back to earth and you're in the middle of a street with demons running about ripping peoples heads off."

That reminds me of Duke Nukem 3D just a tad http://www.NEWDOOM.com/ubb/smile.gif Anyways, I would love to fight monsters on a foreign planet that looked very futuristic!

I like all 3 of the ideas, and maybe a spacestation hovering over a planet?

Hell sounds good.

I'm with Hell, although it should start off on Earth at the beginning. "Demons running down the streets" was already featured in the Plutonia Experiment...MAP29 :)

The plot should also continue years after the end of Final Doom to avoid too many continuity errors...or maybe use the same original plot as Doom 1, and nothing has happened yet before the game.

When I say streets, I mean real open out streets that look real. Perhaps now that hell has invaded, the sky has gone red and parts of earth have turned into hell.

You've never played Plutonia, have you? :)

You just described MAP29...it is like an entire town; you can enter every building and the streets are realistic enough, except for when they lead into a stone wall at the edge of the map...there are a ton of demons and Hell has seriously done some work on the place in parts...a couple lawn spots are now huge red pits and what might have been a football feild now looks like something that came out of Inferno. And there's the cyberdemon on the platform in the middle of it all!

so there, heheh...

Well I have played Plutonia but I couldn't of played that level.
Ok, so how about civilains running around too?

I liked doom because you were all by yourself and had no friends. Thats getting out of fashion these days in fps and we now get alot of friends.
So how about friends that get killed real quickly or you get them to follow you around for a while and suddenly it turns into a huge demon.

Being able to trust no one is what I'm getting at.

I think that id should throw in some new planets as well as Earth and Mars. it would be cool if some of the levels included a space station.

why not after the last deal with God, when the good can go to heaven and the bad stay on earth
our marine gets to heaven but doesn't find his friends and decides to go back to earth
trying to find the way to hell
with red skies, barren wastelands, destroyed towns, shattered forests, caves and remaining fortresses
filled with demons !!!! http://www.NEWDOOM.com/ubb/eek.gif

It would be nice to see the new Doom game drift away from those castles and stone complexes and more toward futuristic, industrial type settings like a space port for instance.

Ok, Time to crack open the bible here, people. I'm talkin' seven signs of the Armageddon (one of them not being a metior or asteroid heading toward earth). The New Doom needs end bosses that refer to the four hoursemen, death, famine, pesrilence and plague. All this leading up to a gigantic seven headed dragon!

It's fun and educational!

No no no CRETE.. what you have to have is a mix. A mix of classic Castle architecture, with Sci-Fi futuristic setting. Kind of like more of a fantasy than Sci-Fi, but instead of Dragons and stuff, you have a seven headed Dragon.. Robot.... or giant 34 armed octupus yoru choice is as good as mine!

That's a good idea Nick, only ...

Well, take a look at nearly every 3d game id has ever made. Even Softdisk.

Hovertank 3D was their first 3D engine, wow! You drove a tank. Like you were in a war.

Wolfenstein 3D, record breaking stuff. And it took place in the Holocaust. Very historical.

Then there was Doom. Many of the levels had that medieval tone, and as David Ab Hugh and Brad Linaweaver pointed out in the Doom novels, the demons looked not only Hellish, but just like the world thought demons up many centuries ago today.

Quake...who can forget that extremely midieval environment?

Quake III...at least half of the levels feature statues and a slight leave-over of Quake1's midieval environment.

My point is that id Software has a knack for World History. It could be J.C.'s ideas, forcing the rest of id to work in such that way, or perhaps Tom Hall's spirit lurking on that floor in the big glass building. Or even Adrian's inspirational art. But -something- is doing that, and it's noticable.

Since Quake II, however, those things have been beginning to disappear, and most of the historical bits and peices are fading away.

Therefore I believe that new Doom will be mostly a present/future Hellish theme and nothing historical unless there are minor easter eggs implemented (like the Wolf3d maps in Doom2 or the Dopefish picture in Quake I).

This is probably a good thing--the Midieval/Future environment mix really is beginning to get a bit old...

Tell me what you think.

the iron work of Medieval Europe alone could give you designs for a thousand bludgeoning instruments. not only that, but painting highlights on Bronze is actually kind of fun.

back on topic:

I would prefer something akin to 'making a deal with the devil'

you see, you've already blown all hell out of existence, or the important bits, anyway.
so perhaps it can be a journey back to earth through the portals

NOTE: for a more novelized version of this, read C.J. Cherrye's Morgaine Saga

you see, the devil would give you safe passage out of hell as long as you made sure you would never come back.

of course, the other citizens of Hell dont like that you're closing their gates behind you, so they rebel.

the Devil didnt say anything about time relativity. you pop out in the year 2360

boy, what a clean exit to the old design habits, eh?

Our technology enables us to create a DOOM that was unimagineable back in the day.
It was also Unimagineable to think of an even more powerful force of the time. DOOM through Final DOOM was simply a scouting party. The new DOOM will be the first real wave. Satan's saying "You ain't seen nothing yet!"
As a battle worn Space Marine, you don't have any alternative way of living. You yearn for the fiery embrace of war. The craving for the metallic taste of demon blood grows stronger each day you live amongst the civilian population. As the world Government looks for cleaner ways to deal with the upcoming threat, an underground militant faction sends in their best men to deal with the problem without civilian intervention but as commencement begins, the offense is released from the opposing force. Hell has already been on earth but now Eath is Hell and what you used to call Hell is something much more evil.

There is a multitude of places that the new DooM game could take place.. It doesn't matter much where it all takes place as long as it has a futuristic/hellish look and feel to it. I mean it could be on anouther planet, on Earth, a spacestation, or whatever.. I said before (in some lost topic) that you could be sitting in the middle of nowhere and BuuuuuuuuuRRRRZZZZZZZaaaaaPP a portal opens up nearby and the demons pour out.

The lost episodes of DooM took on Europa, Io, and inside Jupiter's great red spot. it was a book/disk set that came out about a year or so after DooM.

I bought the book, but the disk with the levels was missing http://forums.newdoom.com/ubb/mad.gif. Does anyone know if the Lost episodes of DooM can be downloaded from somewhere?

Yeah I know what you're talking about. The Lost Episodes looked pretty stupid, though. I saw the book a long time ago at Barnes & Noble. Your best bet in getting it is a search at Amazon.com, or better yet, bn.com. I highly doubt the levels are on the internet anywhere.
