Some guy got fired at ID software, for trying to make this great game.

Yes, we know. Poor Paul Steed got fired by Adrian Carmack and Jay Wilbur for arguing with them. The ticker is that they only then decided to go with new Doom!

On the contrary, in Kevin Cloud's .plan on June 2nd, he states, "Although Adrian and I alone made the decision to fire Paul, it is the general opinion among the rest of id that we made the right decision. Paul was not fired as a result of his support for DOOM. Other people at id supported DOOM in the exact same manner. For several reasons it was time for id software and Paul Steed to part company." I encourage you to read the rest of what he had to say. Here's the link: http://www.webdog.org/plans/4/

Well we can't always get what we want...but maybe id could mention soon what type of game it's going to be. I know it's going to be a fps but what type of approach are they going for.
I have no patience.

Well if they have checked this site out yet, they will know they have to make it a scary, lengthened-plot game, or else we will all go insane with rage.
Or at least, you will all be dissapointed and I will go insane with rage :)

After seven years, id Software is moving into their new offices this weekend. My understanding is that they are going to finish up the mission pack for Quake III Arena and then begin work on the New Doom, if they haven't begun already. Anyways, on to the point, I figure it will be a long time before they even can take a screenshot of the game. They have to develop a new engine, plan the game out, etc. Please correct me if my information is incorrect.

Thanx for the info twist...now that the plans are here it's a bit helpful too :)
I think they already began work on Doom, but are having trouble holding up the Q3A server this week because of the move.
I'm gonna miss the big ol' black cube :(
Anyway, you are right, I think Carmack would prefer to have worked on the engine and Adrian on the art just a bit before they take a screenshot or two :)

Yeah, a screenshot is miles away from now but hopefully we get to hear what they're planning to do for this game.

Unfortunately, they state that they will not keep us updated and would rather let its release explain itself, know what i mean?
Hrm I wonder what happened to the game id was originally planning to make after Q3A, called Trinity?

Actually now that I think about it, I'd much rather not hear what it's going to be like and be really surprised when I buy it.
I mean it was terrible in half-life when I already knew that the grunts were against you. There was no surprise. http://www.NEWDOOM.com/ubb/frown.gif

I agree. Hey wait...what did you expect, that the Grunts would be your best friends!?

I didn't even know there were going to be grunts until I saw the review which spoilt the whole thing.

Hahaha! :)
When I first played Doom I didn't even know I was supposed to shoot things in it, I just thought it was one of those 3D demos! :)
In fact, when I first got the shareware with a 10-pack of demos, I got Doom mixed up with the image of the dragon on the Stellar 7 cd...so I didn't even know it was a FPS and thought it was just some stupid game :)
Prefered Kings Quest V instead. Learned to despise RPGs. Die Die Die KILL RPGs!!!

The best game ever is Pong, then Doom in second, and then maybe Boggle, when your little brother doesn't keep cheating by adding 5 points to all his scores. Uhm...TO THE RANTS SECTION!! muha ha...

Why pong?
It's not the first game ever by the way...
Zack
June 12th, 2000, 11:36 AM
The first game ever was some Space Shooters thing made for a computer the size of your living room and a monitor the size of your dreamcast VMU screen. :)
And I choose Pong because even today it's still very damn addictive! :) Plus you can emulate it very easily and make your own versions of the game.

Yes, space war, that was the first game ever!
And your right, pong is soooooo adictive.

You mean the first VIDEO game. The first game by man was created by the neanderthal many thousands of years ago. It was called "OOGAH!!" =)
