Is Doom still popular?

After all these years with the 1st person gaming industry, people are still playing Doom? What is all this?

DooM, provides an athosphere and gameplay, albeit "ancient", has never really been matched by games made today.
Sure, the AI and graphics, plus true 3D make games look and feel better, but when it comes to a story and archetecture that is forboding and can provide a challenge, DooM still ranks up there. Even die-hard Quake fans still play a game once in awhile.

In short, it's that element of fear, I think, that no other FPS game since Doom has been able to capture.

I agree wholeheartedly.

The atmosphere and action in the DOOM games is second to none, if only network support were up to todays standards.

The only other game approaching it in gameplay by maybe 50% is Quake3:Arena, if it weren't so sluggish ( standalone or network ).

And, by the way, the new game is not DOOM 3, it is CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN.

Doom sure as hell aint dead,its the best game there is,that ever was and always will be.Doom kills Duke Nukem anyday!
If you dont agree death match over it!
DOOM is the fore father of todays games as quake or half-life etc.

DooM is like a big infected pimple just beyond your reach in the middle of your back. It sits there and festers, and there is no way you can get rid of it.

Corridor 7 is dead.

Duke Nukem is...um...alive, but not as popular as DooM.

REoL, it will make all the DooM games stronger and more popular. The new game will be the best thing since DooM itself.

I ain't worried about no hype. Hype is fan created and has squat to do with game creation. I don't get into "Hype" of no type. The game will come and I'll like it. Then again, am I creating my own hype?
