It would be cool if Hollywood made the Doom story into a cool sci-fi movie. like starship troopers.

I believe they actually had that planned out at one point at least one year ago. They had much of a cast list, but all this was from movie rumors. It was said that the movie was supposed to be based on the four Doom novels (Knee Deep in the Dead, Hell on Earth, Infernal Sky and Endgame, by David ab Hugh and Brad Linaweaver) and well known actors would be in it, like Jason Alexander (played George Kastanza on Seinfeld).

I heard about it too and I don't think it would work. I can't think of many games turning out into good films. I don't want to have to remind you all about mario brothers....

Mario bros was just a really weird movie. But I don't remember it being very bad.

Anyway, there are officially going to be a Tomb Raider movie AND a Final Fantasy movie. And there has already been a Pokemon movie, as well as SMB. And the Sonic anime, which was originally two 30min episodes in Japanese, was dubbed (horribly) and made into a 60min Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

Of course, these are all movies based on the console games, and since there is a Tomb Raider movie, I see no reason a Doom movie wouldn't work out. The only problem is that because of the new Doom spinoff, a movie would be kinda stupid now so it's too late.

Does anybody know where I can get the DooM novels? I bought the first one and read and thought it kicked ass but I can't find any other one except for the last one and reading that would make the other 2 suck. I checked all the bookstores and their websites and the only ones I found in publication are the first and the last ones.

Thats kind of stupid, having only the first and last of a series out to purchase.

You walk up to the front of the bookstore, to one of the counters, and have them order it for you. Just give them the titles for the second and third ones, "Hell On Earth," and "Infernal Sky," and they should have the authors' names right there on their computers. They will order some copies, and if the publisher is on their normal list, it will arrive within a week (depending on your bookstore).

Tried it, they said "that is isn't available for ordering" or something like that.

Sometimes when ordering books you have to try a couple of stores before you can order what you want. Usually works for me, so try it.

On the topic of the Doom Movie...I doubt it will ever get made. If it were to get the go ahead, it would fall short of my high expectations anyway. This I know for fact, since Hollywood creates entertainment strictly for revenue and profit. As a result the Doom Motion Picture would be filled with nonsensical rubbish.
They would not be able to show the extreme violence and carnage needed to convey a sense of reality and horror. Gladiator, rated 18A, contained absolutly nothing I would call "gory". And yet the majority of Movie reviewers commented on the "violent and bloody content".
Well, sadly, Hollywood is so politicisized now they can't even make a production romotely realistic anymore.
Those old, super-low-budget Zombie movies contained far more graphic violence than anything Hollywood could make today...heck, back then they used real animal organs from the slaughterhouse in gore scenes !
Now they pay hundereds of thousands of dollars to a special effects companies to supply gallons of artificial blood and "gibs" for scenes...
I am afraid...to say...that it might be just as well if the Doom Movie was never made.
At least save the awesome reputation of Doom from being made into an appalling flop/bomb of a Movie.

Whatever, that is all your opinion. I saw what they did with Sleepy Hollow. If they can make an old story like that as awesome as the movie, they can do it with Doom, too. But it's not like it matters, since it won't become a movie anyway. We'd have heard news about that from id. And since it's becoming a new single player game, assumingly with a good plot, there will be no need for a movi spinoff. (New Doom IS the spinoff http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif)

The Mario Brothers movie was bad. However there was a mistery movie were Mario was in it something about the kid and the lady with only 3 fingers and a bomb. The name I think was "it's not a game" or something like that. does anyone know?

The Doom movie would be a lot cooler becuase of the constant action. Besides, ID would have to do a good job on it! :-)

I think that the film wasn't going to be based on the books at all. I think that was just speculation. The books would make shitty films, they were basically Mormon-recruitment devices.

Well we don't need no stinkin' movie anyhow, because id™ is making the new game.

Movie Bad.
Game Good.

I think the first novel, Knee-Deep in the Dead, would make a cool movie. The other novels wouldn't cut it. Hell on Earth was just OK and the other 2 novels were crap, what were they thinking when they wrote those distasters?

Yeah, it makes me crazy these authors that come out of the woodwork and just write novels on major stories without official consent.

How dare they ruin the Doom universe with cheap pulp books, making up and expanding the story just to fill a book.

The true story of Doom can, and was told in the instruction manual.

Damn it, how many pages do you need to say that demons and aliens have come through an experimental portal on Phobos base.
They have killed off the marines, and are coming to Earth next.
UAC is the huge corporate conglomerate who ownes and operates space infrastructure, including the Mars moon bases. They have their own private security forces there, and on Earth now.
This Kick ass Marine, You the player, have to go in like Rambo and kick some demon butt, and save Earth.
Oh, and then return to Earth and do the same.

You win, demons banished and slain, portals closed.

The End

Everything else in those books was pulp filler garbage. Just to fill hundereds of pages with unnecessary rubbish.
To expand a super simple story into a big bloated farce to fill a whole series of loser paperbacks.
And Make Money.

I don't know why id either allowed that to happen, or if they didn't, why they didn't sue the cheesy authors and publishers all the way to Hell and back !!!
