I sure hope they put some sort of exploding barrel in the New Doom . It sure is cool to lure some imp ( or other demonic sap ) to walk near a barrel , just before you blast it . Sorta messy though .

Say , what if some barrels would gush open , spilling flammable liquid across the floor . Maybe with a well placed combat boot you can kick them over . Then with a single shot from a plasma rifle : instant inferno ! Then big explosion ! Hehe .

I like the idea of the flamable liquid. In DM, perhaps those barrels could help you set up traps for your enemies. Imagine one of those barrels standing around a corner. If you know that your opponent will be passing by there soon, you can kick that barrel over, and wait for the foe to pass by. And when he/she does, you light up the fire, and he/she turns into a crisp.

You'd need some source of fire or electricity, though, to set it off. Rockets and plasma would do the trick :)

I'd love to see an imp near a barrel that exploded, crying and screaming for, rather than exploding along with the barrel, it would have caught fire completely! Hehehe that would rock :)

At the very least you should be able to move barrels into position by pushing them . That way you could create an exploding barrier trap . Hehe , that reminds me of the time i tried to move a barrel in the first Doom . I thought , just maybe if i punch it-----------------KKKABOOOOOOOOOOOOOM---------i died . Stupid but funny .

How about if some barrels were filled with a thick, black, poisonous, explosive tar substance. So when it blows up globs of burning crud go everywhere, on walls, on a Baron, on the ceiling where it drips burning drops. The tar on the floor issues black smoke and if you walk on it, it causes damage.

Hey, maybe you can blow these things up to create a black smoke screen. Then you get out your handy infra-red goggles and shoot the confused imps who are in the smoke. Hehe.

Exploding barrels is just expected. How can you not have exploding barrels and call it doom?

I thought those barrels in Half-Life were neat...if you shot them they'd squeal defeaningly, leap into the sky, and there was this fireworks display and stuff http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

Although that was nice for show, it would suck for the gameplay. Just a little variety and stuff...

The barrels that did that in Half-Life were at the beginning of the Dam level. Nice pyrotechnics too.

Some variety sure would be nice and that's what we need in da game.

It would be cool if you could move a highly explosive barrel into a strategic spot in front of a door or something, to make a trap or you need the explosive power of a barrel that's at one end of a room to destroy a generator, etc.......

Well it would be nice to have more ways to destroy stuff and cause mayhem, death & destruction with explosions. So why not implement the explosive power of the barrel?

Of course barrels in Quake 2 were movable but usually got caught on a floor ridge or if it got stuck on the wall, then forget it because that mutha ain't movin' no more.

The best use of a exploding barrel so far was the barrel in Quake 2 ( one of the prison maps i think ) where you move the barrel into the security lasers and it blocks the beam. Then you can crouch under the two higher beams and stand back as the blocked beam eventually drills into the barrel and blows it up. That was cool.

So maybe the barrels in New Doom should be easier to move like the boxes and crates in Half-Life. In Half-Life you can hold down the use key and pull barrels backwards. You can even sling boxes, crates & barrels by holding the use key and side stepping.

Anouther cool use of crates (in Half-Life) was where you manouvered those crates over the wet floor in order to walk over them to avoid the electrified water.

There must be 1001 uses for barrels, crates and other movable, breakable and exploding objects.
