The New Doom Should have animated skies like in a bunch of other games, DooM 64 is one of them and I thought the skies really made the atmosphere more realistic.IE on one level there are orange/yellow clouds rolling by and the fog is the same color of the clouds, or in some of the levels they have fire burning in the background. It looks pretty cool

Animated skies are cool as long as they don't look like the weird cloudcrud in the first Quake.
What about if you can see stuff flying past, far above amongst the clouds and it adds some realism to the game. It looks like a speck or flying bird / demon but its too far off to tell.

They had airships flying by in Quake 2, but it wasn't part of the sky.
In UT, they had pretty neat animated portions of skies, like spinning asteroids in space and stuff. Dunno how it was done yet.

I think the UT skies were just a massive model with textures of the sky surrounding the area... Because I noticed when I played in low texture detail, the sky looked all farked... Like big black lines in the middle of planets... which is obviously a texture alignment problem due to different texture resolutions for the same polygon. But that's just my opinion http://www.newdoom.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'll check it out, whenever I get a new computer capable of playing UT in the distant future....

In Doom64 they had moutains in the skies and the skies still rolled, but not the moutains. I dunno how they did that but id should really do that again. As I said before it really adds to the atmosphere. Also I like the rolling clouds in Perfect Dark. They look realistic and not like the sh*t in games like Hexen 2.

id didn't do Doom 64. They sold the rights to some other company to make it and use some of the same graphics and plot and stuff. As for skies scrolling behind the mountains, that sounds like a very simple concept: paralax scrolling.

Actually.. id did have some input into Doom64, but it was mainly made by Midway from memory.
