View Full Version : Huge Centipede Monster .

All the old monsters are still pretty cool , but something different needs to be thrown into the mix . We've all seen tons of aliens , spiders , mutants , various humans , etc ............ but what could they put into a game like The New Doom that would make it different ? How about a huge , mulit~legged , hissing , centipede from hell . This creature could be lightning fast and have a scaled , body armored , segmented body . Perhaps when this thing digs its mandables into you , it won't let go until you kill it . Also it has such a low profile that it can suddenly crawl out of sight under a door , or under a rock . I think this monster would be very creepy and not all that hard to model , considering what an awesome job game designers are doing these days on rendering monsters . What do you guys think ?

That's not a bad idea, but a giant centipede sounds kind of corny. As long as it doesn't resemble a real centipede, except for the shape, that's okay then! Sounds really kewl!
Although I don't understand what you mean, how it can crawl underneath cracks or rocks, if it is so big??

OK I have to say it!
"I got yer huge centipede right here!"
Don't take that as criticism the monster isn't a bad idea. It's just that I coulldn't let that line go to waste.

Yeah , Zack , i think your right . The thing would be a little too big to crawl under a door or whatever . I was just trying to make it sound that much creepier , because if it could suddenly come out from under somethin' , it would scare da crap outta ya . I gotta disagree on the corny bit . I was thinkin that a centipede would be every bit as kewl and creepy as any spider and we know that spiders have been done to death in games . So , Zack , what would make this monster less corny and more cool ?
CRETE , ya can keep your centipede to yourself . No one here needs to know about THAT centipede .

If there are going to be doors, I hope enemies can smash through it.
I don't want to know where the enemies are in the level if I've played it before. So how about they move about alot even if you're not there. Just an idea...

Wondering monsters or patrolling enemies is an excellent way to add more variety to encounters . Beefing up the AI is something that id shouldn't overlook and i'm sure they're well aware of this . Personally i want a monster that can follow the player , either by sound or scent . Even better would be a creature that would follow , attack from a distance , then hide , or run off , givin the player a real challenge . Also this could add to the creepyness , ambience of a game .

Yes Doom_dude, ime glad you mentioned the AI, i was gettin a little scared because knowone had mentioned that for a while. the monsters should limp and run away when you hitem in the leg or arm.

Dude, I think you missing the point of what AI is.
I think they are talking about how monsters attack rather than how localized their damage is. Anybody can have a game where the enemy registers one reaction to a leg shot and one to a head shot. But can any game maker have really smart enemies? Let's hope id can do it.

McBaine is not wrong in saying that a intelligent monster that is shot should run away . A intelligent monster should either get mad and attack in a fury of hatred or say " im outta here ! That human ain't gonna stop shootin' me , so bye " and then run off like McBaine said . I do believe that is AI .

Nah man, he's talkin about localized damage.
He wants 'em to limp away when you hit em in the leg. It's just a matter of where it's being hit that McBaine is talking about.

I think only McBaine really knows what he be talkin' about . I would rather see id beef up the AI than have them programmin' localised damage crap . This ain't Soldier Of Fortune they be makin'. If i shoot the frigger' and it dies , with a death moan and some sprayin' blood then good enough ! Limpin' lizards only make ya waste ammo .

Once again I see we are fighting to prove the same point.
Will the madness ever stop?

Hmm...So what do you guys think of that new Disney movie, The Kid? :)
(No, the kid does not look anything like Bruce Willis, and yes, Willis made a bad choice choosing to play in this movie.)

Maybe he was getting at the point that Bruce Willis should be a zombie in the new doom.

Yes, that, and because CRETE completely stopped all subjects on this board with his insanely moronic post.

Obviously the originality runs out at the hell closet point.
Hmmm.
Shwartzenegger is too obvious. Howsabout that guy Kurt Russel? It would be like soldier only without all that suck!
