Hey guys, just wondering if you just wanna talk about Halo or Halo 2. I'm suprised none of you ever brought up the subject. Pretty good game, and i can't wait for it's sequel, Halo 2.
To kick things off, let's talk about the first Halo: Combat Evolved. Graphics, Sound, Gameplay, Multiplayer online whatever.
I'd just like to point one thing out. Why does Cliff's marine suit look so much like Master Chief's suit. Very fishy i reckon. Their helmets are the same kinda. And they're suits are same color. And they are both " one of the toughest forces on the face of the earth "
Whadya think ?

whos Cliff?
I've started to play through it a second time now that I have my 9800SE-Pro installed.. pretty reflections and bump-maps!!! ooh ahh before I thought the game was great.. now it has the graphics to match.. although the shiny elites look a little...too shiny for me.. ahwell
EDIT: oh and there was an existing Halo thread.. but now its gone :)

yeh well ..... anyways ... lets talk bout halo :D .... alot of people complain about the graphics on Halo .... i mean ... give it a break .... it had to make it in time for the release of Xbox ..... i reckon the graphics are killer. Don't know why people call them DATED graphics ... they were like 2001 graphics ... oh wow .... 1 year ... that's dated isnt it .... man the people dont know what theyre talking about ...

Weel I have problems with Halo. It runs a lot slower than Unreal II on my comp despite the fact that it's older than Unreal II. But I suppose it's what you get from a ported game.
Sargeant Cliff
January 10th, 2004, 04:57 AM
yeh .... i dont have any problems with the speed ... i have my copy of Halo on XBOX that's why .... you dont need to worry about the system requirements .... though PC you gotta deal with the problems of your hard drive and graphics cards and stuff ... real frustrating if your PC is only 1GHz .... though id agree that Halo is much better working on PC .... the extra levels and better sounds and graphics puts a smile on my face :) ... and the enabled multiplayer online is killer !

I never read the doom books but I thought the "Doomguys" name in them was "Flynn"
Sargeant Cliff
January 10th, 2004, 05:15 AM
actually ... what i meant by that ... is read the small stories that lead up to the game .... eg: cliff was sitting on a chair ... suddenly a cyberdemon destroyed his wife ... now ... youre the only one left ... then you start the game. ya get me now ??? i was never referring to the Doom novels ....

I'm (mainly) a pc-gamer. I don't have a X-Box. And if I pay 50 bucks for a game, I want a game that runs fine on my machine, not just a lousy running cheap conversion.

It always lags at certain points for me in the game. It shows i can't be my comp. It has to be the game itself otherwise it would happen randomly. It also crashes a lot for me mostly at random and sometimes when I got too quit the game. It's a real PITA.*angry*

Halo is a great game and runs great for me. once a few more of my friends get it (yeah, they are way late) we will be forming a clan.
well, we unofficially have one already. just me (Acyclitor) and my buddy HollowHeart. our "clan" is called Anarchy Inc.

I heard of a really good Xbox emulator coming out.
Do you know more about that? I won't belive it until I see that thing running "Project Gotham Racing 2" on my machine at at least 30 fps!

wow ! cant wait ... really ! i mean ... not having to spend $90 AUS for halo 2 would be great ... though the downloading times for the xbox roms will take long ... im really beefed up about it ... not being disapointed after buying a $50 game that doesnt run properly on your xbox, now you can just delete it on your PC without wasting a dime .... though it may be illegal stuff :S ... so ... if it is ... try not to post anything more about it soon ... for all of our sakes ... yknow ... cops barge into this forum and put us all under arrest. So ... lets have a chat about the Halo gameplay now ...

Sarg. Cliff, you can buy Xbox CDs and download them onto your comp and play them on an emulator (although that may be illigal as well, i'm not sure. but it isn't as bad as downloading the game). thats what HyperFlash was talking about, he said nothing about piracy, really. you took the conversation in that direction.
but enough about that anyway, Halo 2 looks very good. i hope, and am reasonably confident they will, make a PC version, 'cause i don't have or want an XBox.

Im not sure what version of Doom you had but there was no wives and no cliffs in any of the official backstories I ever read..
Sargeant Cliff
January 10th, 2004, 09:27 PM
yeh ... the graphics are pretty killer man ! i see that master chief's suit has improved very much and is less " blocky " ... the new features that ive read may be a bit of a spoiler ... the graphics are not as near as good as the graphics in Halo 2. The Bungie team have been working on it for quite a while ... i admit im getting pretty impatient ... im not sure about comparing the gameplay though ...

i have one gripe with halo 2. the assault rifle has been changed. i loved the original one, but the new one has that wierd hole in it. not as cool
Sargeant Cliff
January 10th, 2004, 09:37 PM
eeewww ... never knew that ... major bummer ... seeing as the assault rife IS and always HAS been my favourite gun ... i hope the hole doesnt make it look gay or anything ... i hope the bullet-counter stays there ... sounds the same ... and is the same COLOR for gods sake ... i have come across some games in my past that have had their guns had their color changed .... really pisses me off there !!! .... does anyone know anything more about the Halo 2 storyline other than the covenant find earth ???

HALO(PC)
Graphics: Awesome.
Sound: Hilariosly great.
Gameplay: Smooth and fun.
Story: Very deep, very good Sci-Fi.
Major Praises:
The sound was done very well. Hearing the variety of combat chatter makes it so much more interesting, it gives each ally and enemy more peronality.
The AI in the game was great.
Major Gripes:
The assualt rifle was an infliction to every marine in the game. The pistol did far much better and was my choice over the assualt rifle.
The Flood were way too overwhelming in points, there were just too many of them.
Sargeant Cliff
January 10th, 2004, 09:56 PM
well thats why they were called the flood man ... theyre everywhere ... they take over the place ... just like a real flood ... i have heard BUNGiE has been working extremely hard on the marines AI. ill give you a little peek on that.
the marines are now programmed to watch out for their mates backs and give out warnings for any danger like a ghost approaching, a banshee or a wraith or whatever. the funny comments are said only when somethings actually funny. where as when you killed your mate they would sometimes say ... hey mate you stole my kill ... looking very forward to halo 2.
hey mate nice post ;)

nope. i know nothing else about halo 2.
i was just talking about a game of halo i played with a friend, so i think i should explain some things about my halo clan here, sense i might actually get some people to JOIN!
Anarchy Inc. reflects my personal style in halo. i support no rules playing, because i can handle it. however, i play fair from the start, and expect the same from my enemies. if they show themselfs to be lamers (vehicle hogging, run downs, gangbanging, any/all of these on repeated basis) then i use my no rules support as an exuse to sink to their level, and i make the game hell for them. i live to lame against the lamers. even better is when i have the oportunity to beat these unhonorable players in honorable ways. thats what Anarchy Inc. is all about.
if that sounds agreeable to you, then Anarchy Inc. might be right up your alley!*thumbs*

one of the other nice touches about the sound in Halo was the marines voices.. instead of hearing same-old, same-old yokel yanks sir-yes sirring theres some australian accents and some mexican ones in there too.. big-ups to bungie for that little sanity saver
and the assualt rifle? pssh the only thing it was good against were those stupid little floodlings.. and I usually let them dash themselves on my shield when theres not too much danger around... well it was also abit more usefull than the shotgun and pistol against banshees and sentinals..but not by much

About the Emulator I was talking about, it's just like any other emulator that plays CDs. Just put Halo 2 in the rom tray and boot up the emulator.
On topic, the batlle rifle will replace the Assault Rifle. Trading a large clip and sloppy fire with a zoom scope and great precision is good enough for me. The only time I'd have the AR on me is if I know there is going to be a lot of infection forms.
And with Halo 2's story, if you want to learn more, read Halo: First Strike. It gives a bunch of details about how the Covenant are where they are and what they're gonna do. And how MC got back to Earth in time for the invasion.
MasterOfPuppets
January 11th, 2004, 01:27 PM
omg, the assault rifle is a great weapon, i use it a lot. its great for grunts, jackals, and infection swarms. sure its weak against elites, exept for the stealth ones with no armor, but thats when you should get the shotgun or plasma gun. but still, i never drop my AR for another weapon. ever play multiplayer at all!? an enemy laying down bullets on you with the AR is a sudden and big problem. AR rules you!!
Felix
January 11th, 2004, 02:36 PM
I haven't played multiplayer yet.. AR might come into its own in that.. Single player, the plasma rifle does a hugely better job against all forms of covenant.. later on when you're up to your neck in flood its a nice quick backup weapon when theres no time to reload your shotgun
MasterOfPuppets
January 11th, 2004, 05:42 PM
plasma gun is also good in muliplay, because it causes what i call plasma paralisys (sp?). its the same for the plasma guns on banshees and ghosts (what i hate is when a ghost gives you the paralisys, then runs you down whilst you struggle to move).
BUT, it gives away your location. i sometimes prefer to take fire with an AR from afar. it dosn't hit them much, but it makes them stop and look around for you (usually in the wrong direction), giving you the oportunity to pull whatever tricks you might have up your sleeve.
off topic from the little AR disscussion: here is a tip to kill banshees in muliplayer. pick up the fuel rod gun or rocket launcher and a small gun, such as pistol or AR. take potshots at the banshee with your small firearm, to lure them in close, most likely trying to run you over. they think you have weak weapons so they will be confident. but as they approach, pull out your large weapon and suprise them!
...i spend much time playing halo online.*weird*

I already reserved Halo 2. I can't wait 'till it's released.:)
'Till then...I'll just play DOOM.*spin*

every day ... the release date just keeps gettin closer and closer ... personally, i hope they spend another month or so on it before they release it to stores. but then again ... the trailer makes me impatient ... what with all the features the master chief wasnt looking at on the trailer ... eg: the medic helping heal the marine, the marines checking out the wounded ... ( he had no tags ), the marines firing the machinegun at the covenant upstairs in the building, yeh i wouldve checked all of them out. and i still plan to. ;)

It shows a badly balanced multiplayer mode when you have to sink to lame tactics to beat other people using lame tactics. A well balanced and designed multiplayer/deathmatch mode should support a lot of different playing styles, and never have one style of play so obviously superior in effect that players have to adopt it if they want to beat it.

And that's the kind of stuff Halo 2 will deliver. Lame tactics will be no more. You find some lame tactic, and I know a way to counter it without being cheap.

in hindsight, "sink to their level" wasn't the best choice of words, because thats not really what i do. well, not anymore anyway. now i just...i dunno, kill them. i think i get mad or something and just go on a rampage basically, using anything at hand. its strange, because i don't really do a whole lot of stuff different from my "normal" play. i guess being lamed on just puts me into the right mind-set to kick ass.
but seriously! i need to know how to record demos!!!! somebody plz tell me!?

but seriously! i need to know how to record demos!!!! somebody plz tell me!? If you are playing the PC version, demo recording support wasn't in a month ago. There may have been a patch with it implemented released since then though - I've seen a lot of demand for the feature.
As for multiplayer, it's amazing how much playing performance can vary - sometimes it just all really comes together for you, and you know you won't play like that for another week. The opposite is true as well, unfortunately (I hate the really bad days, where you probably couldn't even beat your own grandmother).

no demo support huh? that really bites.
i am now having another issue with trying to run a server: how do you join your own server!!!! i just won't happen for me, and i can't seem to get help from the Halo authorities. somebody had posted this at a thread somewhere else
you need to chg the port on the server or your client port, you cant share the same port.but i don't know how to do that. (i believe by chg he means change). somebody plz tell me (i do nothing but ask for help today)

Try looking for .cfg files. There's masses of settings in those. Haven't got Halo installed at the moment though, so you'll have to hunt through them yourself.

EDIT: figured it out. for some retarded reason i have to start my server, then close the game that it automatically begins at startup, then resume the game, and i can join. how stupid
EDIT again: o it gets stupider. i messed with RCon a bit, and now i can't join again. i took RCon out again and everything, still can't join. how freaken retarded!

They have Halo 2 weekly updates over at halo.bungie.org and I saw one of them today. They were talking about the graphics mostly, and they said they would be stunning. They also said that you wouldn't find the same texture on different levels (a.k.a. Halo).

each level using 100% unique textures!? damn, thats impressive.
