What program do you guys recommend for extracting sprites from wads? I'm looking for something that will run in Windows XP.

is it possible with Wintex 4.x or 5.x or only with Wintex 3.x ?

Yep, Wintex V4.x and V5.x do support sprite exporting/importing.
