Anyone know why the server seems to be down?

I've been wondering the same thing but I haven't seen any OFoDs online to ask 'em. It'll come back. :)

I don't see any of them online, either. Then again, I don't know what they are. What are those again?

OFoD is a clan active on Doom Connector. Most of the mods (and even the creator of DC) are in the clan. FYI it stands for Old Fogies of Doom.

Yup, when you see someone with [OFoD] infront of their name that means they're part of the DC mod crew.

..at least that what it says on the 404 I get when opening www.xodemultimedia.com
There it is plainly stated that the website is relocated to www.codeimp.com, and www.doomconnector.com.
Since this has happened so recently, my guess is he (Pascal vd Heiden) just hasn't gotten around to redirect the Doom Connector client.
Anyway, i pary it's soon up again, because my big brother is simply asking to get fragged.

I'm afraid that's not why DC is down. I don't know the real reason, but if you can see the usual user interface with "Connecting..." on the bottom then DC has already gotten the info it needed from the internet sites (of which db.com and xodemultimedia.com aren't the only ones).

I was talking to Gher- I mean CodeImp about it and he said that it was something that was out of his control so I'm assuming the Joel (who hosts DC) needs to reset or restart something.

Thanks for the explanations. :)
Hope it comes back sooner than later, as I can't seem to get the in-game server listing to work.. It will freeze legacy1.41b when I try to refresh..

Yes it seems that the Doom Donnector is down , hopefully only for a little bit though.
"If I see Joen" I'll let him know whets going on.
until then , hang in there :)
On that note , we are still looking for a new server to host Doom Connector on.
Here are the requirements :
- Min. 350 MHz CPU
- 256 MB RAM System memory
- Any Windows 2000 OS (Pro / Server / Advanced Server)
Administrative requirements
- FTP Access
- Remote control (VNC / Terminal Service)
Optional extras
- Webserver to give doomconnector.com access to DC's text files for
statistics processing

Oh about the retrieving servers from within legacys mutiplayer menu , I know what ya mean , if freezes for a bit but if you wait it will go back to its normal state, its just diggin deep for any servers reported to the master.. although I don't think the master servers running right now , at least daggers isn't that I know of.
when looking for servers running ,usually what I do is just drop the console and type : listserv
and press enter.
Its pretty much the same thing as using the multiplayer menu but a little faster me thinks.

Doom Connector is not down because of the site change. The server seems to be down and the only one who can reset it is Joen, but he has to go to his office to do so.
About what Mr Rocket posted, please read the only official requirements and story details (http://www.codeimp.com/temp/dcserver_req.txt). We are losing our current server at march 1.
And for the record: Only half of OFoD are Doom Connector staff and there are other staff too. OFoD has nothing to do with staff.

...Hm.... so did anyone plan on resetting the server?

Guess not..
I'm itching for some action, but no news. Sure hope it wont be down until they find a new server.

*ahem*, what about the FreeNode #doomlegacy channel? Still Doom Legacy, already run by Drakker.

#legacy can be accessed by going onto irc.freenode.net and joining #legacy
as well as using the weblink to use a java irc client to go to the same place

Good deal. Suppose I have to, because - and I'll go out on a limb here - I think there is something wrong with the Doom Connector server.
At least it was up for a while yesterday. Now it's down. Must be terribly confusing for it.

Well it seems that DC is officially dead. Better get that launcher of yours all finished up Rocketman. :)

Heh that might take a bit , I'm still new at the programming thing.. so its gonna be some slow development..
The new legacy launchers one thing , its for legacy only, but should be cool i hope heh..
But "DC is the mother of all launchers" - mark my words on that. , and supports all the source ports. - all hale Gherkin!
I don't want anyone to think that there was ever any competition involved with what I'm doing and Gherkins Doom Connector , I mean I have backed him with it for a few years now I would very much like to see it stay. I still remember when gherkin introduced me to the what was "legacy connector" at the beginning , and yea I wish it would have stayed the legacy connector , everything just seemed perfect then. - in short ,there wasn't alot of bullshit going on..
But time went by and the other source port makers wanted in. As always Gherkin gave the community want they wanted.
It was cool at first until the community grew with that and everyone started putting down each others preferred source ports , which just didn't make sense to me because , hey' its not the source port, its Doom and that's what they all have in common..imo
It might take some time with the launcher but for now I'd just like to see DC running. - and stay running heh
I wish I could just ask Gherkin nicely , " hey man why not bust out a legacy launcher with irc , here you can have my partial complete code!
Now days I just don't know if he'd go for it. cause he doesn't want to deal with the hoopla all over again , but thing is , it would be irc chat and legacy only ,so we wouldn't have to deal with the server problems nor a rank community.
anyhows , from what i hear , DC "should" be back and running soon , all thats needed is a comp for the server! which are pretty much a dime a dozen.. so thats good
In regards to Joen , the server admin of DC for the past few years , ( an excellent job he did dedicated to keeping the doom connector service up and running for us all !)
I , we thank you for keeping DC alive and kicking for such a long time Joen if you listening! , a good man :) you Rock!
yea ok , Gherkin rocks too but that kinda goes without saying , now if he would just stop all that wiening ! :P

Second that. I'm new to the community (haven't played Doom in probably 8 years), but recently moved abroad and wanted a game I could play with my brother back home. Doom would have been great we figured, and boy was I surprised when I realized people out there had put the effort into not only making it possible to play outside a LAN, but redesigning the engine to support mouselook, jump (!), bots etc. Crazy stuff. Love it intensely and we are now well on our way to finish all official wads made for the doom engine playing coop. :D
Sorry to hear that the community don't pull in the same direction, but I guess that's the trademark of geekdom - just like the *nix religion wars.
I'm crossing my fingers for DC to be up and running again, it was such a smooth ride (not putting down your efforts there, Rocket-man!), and would also like to thank gherrk.. codeimp and Joen for their support! Great work, guys!
