This was a good thread that got lost so I thought I would add back here. :D

Playing old DOS games in 2000/XP

There are a few ways to do this:
1) Have a programer build a port like Jdoom, Legacy, Zdoom... etc.

2) Use an emulator, Such as MAME (http://www.mame.net). Requires ROM files that are hard to find.

3) Set up DOSBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1) (DOS Emulator)

4) Setup/Load DOS on a FAT16 partition on your comp. This is called a Duel boot. It would allow you to play DOS games just by booting into DOS. (Requires finding drivers for your Hardware)

A much easier way is:

1) Leave your house and walk somewhere. Before long, you will most likely trip over a 486 that someone has carelessly dumped in the street. This shall be your DOS machine. Take it home and love it forever.

So THAT'S where you get your computers from. *bliss*

That goes without saying. :)

Let's see, I can either buy a new computer for £1200 from PC World, or the same new computer for £300 from anywhere else.
Hmmm.... Tough decision. *rolleyes*

Get another PC. And never, NEVER, try to install DOS after you installed another OS! :D Damn shit erased my whole hard drive...

I got a P133 from my friend. Probably the only thing he ever just gave me because he didn't want it. Perfect DOS box. Now if only I could find a serial mouse (I'm using a Sidewinder joystick as a mouse right now).

Buying computer stuff from PC World is one thing. Buying from "Best" Buy is another.

Best buy jacks prices sky high and expects the average customer not to know how to find a good price.

i.e. 512 MB PC-2700 DDR RAM

Best Buy: $157.95 (Non-sale)
Computers Plus: $99.99 (Non-sale)

Both checked out on the same day.

...could find a serial mouse (I'm using a Sidewinder joystick as a mouse right now).LOL!! I have 2 or 3 serial mice that i cant get rid of! What a predicament. I cant believe that you dont have any PS2 ports on that 133 - i have on old p90 that has 2, and my 180 has two as well.

None of these emulators get Tyrian to work properly.
Are there any patches for tyrian to make it work with winxp
(there was this winxp patch page for dn3d so maybe there is one for tyrian as well)

Brought Cute's old computer home to give it a format job and some good proggies. Then I discovered it has only one PS2 port. I plugged keyboard into that and now I need yet another serial mouse. She had a PS2 mouse in there so I'm guessing she had a serial keyboard or some crazy thing.
