Having strange problem with the red Hexen font- some letters seem to be missing in the red font. I get a strange combination of Hi and Low res lettering in the Hexen menu.
Everything else worked super, especially Heretic - woo!
i just got a new card im loveing it althought all the games i had ran okon my old one...but at least its not crashing my computer anymore i prefer root beer im too young to buy beer
Edit: that is strange..works fine for me... r u sure all the files r in the patches folder for hexen?
Sambo9000, I really love your new title screen, but the JHUI pack removed it! It is still in the patches folder, but will not show up. It's like there is a strange ded call to a hidden subfolder. I do not know where the other title screens are lurking.
The only ded in the JHUI is for the font pack. The JHUI also contains a Title pic. Because the JHUI is in the auto folder or being loaded manually, it will overrule any files in the patches folder with the same name.
To make Sambo's one work with the rest of the JHUI, you need to open the PK3, go to "Data/Jheretic/Patches", then find and delete the JHUI title pic (named "TITLE" like Sambo's).

As Vermil said the jHUI does not remove anything - As I recall the titlescreen you refer to (Nephil's original titlepic which Sambo's tweaked a bit - is actually based on the heretic extension pack titlepic so if you actually have that pack you can see the equivilent graphic in jHUI (as it has both titlepics - or alternatively look in the pk3 under data\jheretic\patches\heretic-ext\ ).
There are no strange ded calls - it simply depends on your game load order.
No instructions for where the interface stuff goes.
Interface stuff for Hexen has no color, is black and white, very dark.
It's meant to to be grey.
And where do you put these images anyway? I don't know where to put the Hexen fonts or the loading/saving/traveling screens.
Put them under data/jhexen/patches
Azrael, allow me to explain. The jHUI is a PK3 file, which is basically a non-compressed ZIP file. Becasue it's saved in the data/jheretic/auto folder, it will automatically load it, and it's contents will over-ride you external files. If you want my title screen to run with the jHUI, find the PK3 file for it, open it up in a ZIP program such as Winzip or WinRAR, find the picture that's replacing it(should be Nephil's titlepic without my improvements, 'TITLE.PNG') and delete it from the PK3. That way mine should work.
Thanks for the help everyone, I appreciate it! It's more tricky than just putting the right graphics files in "patches" with appropriate subfolders, it seems. I know the Heretic title screen is meant to be gray, as is more faithful to the original expansion pack, but once I saw Sambo's it's hard to go back to grey. Sorry I didn't get back sooner, usually my email notifies me of a forum response. The JHUI also has a less bright hi res font pack than the one I was using, but does include the excellent hi-res rotating skulls. Didn't know how to put those in separately. No disrespect to Slide and Nephil, I just have a childish need for bright colors. :-)
No problem at all - I've always said the jDUI and jHUI are simply a baseline, which is as you say, tries to be accurate to the original game. But from there you can of course customise the game to suit your personal taste.
Everything now fixed thanks to all the help.
By the way, I was using an unzipped hi res Hexen font in the patches folder. Only some of the red letters were there when unzipped. Putting a power archiver zip of hexfonts in the Auto folder fixed it. (It could be a WinRAR zip that my computer is reading as Power Archiver)
