Joe Satriani. I should get some his stuff.
Anyway today was a bit of a bonus as my order arrived and sods law I got a CD with a voucher I had left. Things always come in 3s! *crazy*
So today I got.
Jason Becker - The Blackberry Jams. Just lots of demos and stuff so the sound is a bit patchy but still cool guita playing Shame he can't play anymore.
Marty Friedman - Dragon's Kiss. Haven't listened to it yet but more instrumental guitar music goodness like my other Marty CD and the Blackberry Jams.
And a compilation CD called Permission to Rock with all sorts of rock and metal bands. Like Van Halen, Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple... you get the idea. But why are the Darkness on it? I don't like them much.

1990? Those guys are that old??? I thought, that when they became popular they were about... hm, let say 20 years old! And that was 1994.
EDIT: Just had a look at their website, but I couldn't find any bio. Googled around. The frontman was born in 1972. So he's already 32. Which means he was 22 when they became popular. 18 when they made their first album. Quite young...

Nephil - Yeah. 1994 is when Dookie came out/they hit big. They had two cds before that. 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, which came out in 1990, and Kerplunk which was released in 1991. Some of their best work, IMO.

Here's a link to their discography....

The Green Day guys were pretty young when they hit big, and have been together a LONG time. Oh and yes we went out and bought the remastered 1039 last night. :D

They are releasing a new album sometime this year, which is supposed to be AWESOME. No release date yet though.

You should get out more, then. If you're into metal, you need to find yourself some Swedish and Finnish music. The best stuff is over there right now, like Children of Bodom, In Flames, Old Man's Child, Meshuggah, Arch Enemy, Defleshed, Opeth, etc.

I agree that all American pop sucks right now. Even "metal". I hate Slipknot with a passion. Find some underground stuff, and America doesn't seem as bad (Iced Earth, Jag Panzer, Six Feet Under, Cannibal Corpse, Megadeth is still rollin, so is Iron Maiden, etc).

And if Metal isn't your shpeal, I could list dozens of good groups in whatever genre you like.

Just bought:

Arch Enemy - Burning Bridges
I think I like their old sound, with Liiva, better than the new with Angela. She's got a great voice and all, but I think the music was better back then. Wages of Sin had some great songs though.

Nightwish - Century Child
Wow. This kicks ASS. I hear it's not as good as their old material,, so I guess I'll be buying more of them later.

Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse
I still like Deliverance the most. I think this one will need some time to grow on me like Blackwater Park did.

I pretty much agree with Nomad about metal being mostly a Swedish/Finnish/Norwegian thing now. You can't forget the rest of Europe though, there's some good bands from Germany, Holland, Greece, and Italy (especially for gothic and opethish stuff).
And there are still quite a few excellent american metal bands. Agoloch (I probably misspelled that), Lamb of God, Nevermore (though I don't really like their singer much), I know there's a bunch more, and they're right on the tip of my tongue, but they won't come out :p.

I can't help but wonder what has happened to the UK though as far as metal bands go. We do have metal bands but considering that Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead and a load of others who did influence later metal bands, what has happened?

Heh, I've come to the realization that I spend too much money on music. This time I went on a black metal binge.

Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse
Emperor - Prometheus - Discipline of Fire and Demise
Satyricon - Nemesis Divina
Gorgoroth - Twilight of The Idols
Old Man's Child - The Pagan Prosperity
Old Man's Child - Revelation 666

Two of them are sitting in Nevada waiting for UPS to get off their asses and actually deliver them *angry*

I'd never heard Emperor before but I 'd heard so many good things that I broke down and ordered. Just from Eclipse I'd have to say that all those things are true. Despite the terrible production, that's one awesome album.

Nomad: It's hard to say. Their older stuff is different from their newer stuff. I haven't listened to everything they've released but I can definitely recommend Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia and Death Cult Armageddon would be really similar if DCA didn't have a full orchestra with it. Either of those two would be a good buy as well.

Galder doesn't do the vocals in Dimmu, that's Shagrath, who's also good. Go to www.nuclearblast.de They're dimmu's label and you can hear samples of Puritanical, DCA, and Enthrone there, as well as some video clips. That ought to help the decision making :)

You bastard! How is it?? Is it good??

She-wolf
July 2nd, 2004, 04:18 AM
Haha! It is good. It's different from their other songs that I've heard, there is maybe more of the orchestra in it. Creek Mary's Blood is quite unusual with all kinds of instruments in it and some unsual guest vocals in another language not Finnish I know that much. I certainly enjoy it but I know that this album was influenced more by their keyboardist which may explain the slight change. Lol the photo of him in the sleeve reminds me of Johhny Depp in Pirates of the Carribean!
Anyway that aside I bought Dragonforce - Sonic Firestorm today. A power metal band from England, a bit cheesy but does it sound good. I like the singing, not quite as crazy as what I have listened to before. The music is good, but the songs are long, all of them upwards of 5 minutes to 10 minutes but well worth it.

Medulla - Bjork. Still can't get the umlauts when I type. Bleh anyway I haven't had much chance to really listen to this but it's cool and like all her albums it takes me a little while to really get into it which I find good.
Demolition - Judas Priest. I'd hummed and hoed about getting this when me and Ninja went to Edinburgh but got Ram it Down instead then. I saw this in town since one of the record shops got a makeover and more range of things to buy so they had stuff I had not seen in town before. I saw this and just got it and since the sticker was covered up by the price sticker on the plastic wrapper I didn't realise it had a sticker and a guitar pick inside it which was nice. The guitar pick is too flimsy to use for me so I put a metal ring in it and it makes a cool pendant! Lol. Yeah the CD is good too, not the best by them but I do like Machine Man, One on One and Feed on Me a lot.

I bought four cds three days back. All of them were Megadeth.

Youthanasia, Cryptic writings, Rust in peace and Countdown to extinction.

I first thought that one of those four must be somewhat dull album, but I was wrong, they're all bloody fantastic. Especially Countdown to extinction is a gift from... Umm... Megadeth?

Behemoth - Demigod arrived on Monday. Wasn't quite sure what to make of Nergal's vocals, I'm used to those sort but by the sound of it, it's like there's distortion or something added to them unless my ears are playing tricks on me. In any case, I'm quite enjoying it now. I quite like albums that take me a little bit longer to get into. It has a video and stuff on it too.
Still waiting on my two CoB CDs though. *burn*

I bought today the remastered versions of Rust in Peace and Cryptic Writings by Megadeth. The Spanish version of Trust is quite strange. *bug*

They only sell the remastered versions here. There's no way I could get the originals. But I guess that they are remastered for a reason.

The old versions have their good points in that for some of the songs you will hear them with the original vocals. Take No Prisoners had a lot of the original tapes of the vocals lost so Dave had to record them again and the remixing brings some things more to the "front" of the sound so to speak which is good and quite strange as I'm used to the originals. That and as the originals like Rust in Peace, Peace Sells But Who's Buying and a couple others were recorded slightly differently and originally put out on tape and vinyl before CDs were more widespread, they are a bit quiet on the original CD versions I have so sound louder on the new ones. Overal the ones I have sound good and have some nice bonus tracks of demos, other songs that didn't get onto the original album or alternative lyrics to the final songs.
Lol at the start of Have Cool Will Travel, I have no idea why but Dave is singing a bit of the kids song "Wheels on the Bus!" *flip*

Thanks, Savage. :D I try. I really need to look at my CD collection again one day and see what doesn't suit my tastes anymore. I have a shitload of CDs that don't even catch my interest anymore, like Korn. =/

Anywho, I just bought Hatebreed : Perseverance. While I was at it, I transferred my reservations for Doom 3 for the Xbox to the Collector's Edition of Doom 3 for the Xbox. *Is giddy that Doom 3 for the Xbox and Doom 3 : ROE are coming out on the week of his birthday* :D

I finally got a hold of Slayer - God Hates Us All. It's a very kickass album. :Dhell yes. my favorite from them, even if it is new. i hate the stigma that new stuff can't be good, and that the second a band gets popular they are sellouts.

anyway, i think the latest album i got was Skyfire - Spectral, or Silent Scythe - Suffer in Silence.
